Intel"s 12th gen CPU family dubbed "Alder Lake" launch seems fast approaching. When it comes to its desktop lineup called Alder Lake-S, we already have the first compatible DDR5 kit from TEAMGROUP announced two weeks ago and set to be available very soon. And today popular leakster HXL has spotted spares for the upcoming socket LGA 1700 and they appear to already be selling on a website in China.
The socket LGA 1700 parts appear to be listed on Taobao and are on sale for CNY35 or ~$5.42. As said earlier, these are spare parts and can be used for DIY repair of a damaged socket if you have the know-how and the tools to do so. A very interesting thing to note is the presence of the number 1800 besides 1700 indicating that a possible future socket might be using a similar layout.
For those unaware, LGA 1700 is the sucessor to the current socket LGA 1200 and will be compatible with the Alder Lake-S processors. The flagship Alder Lake-S processor is rumored to pack 16 cores, 24 threads where half would be the bigger Golden Cove cores (that have hyper-threading), while the other half would be smaller Gracemont ones (lacking hyper-threading).
While we know a lot about Alder Lake-S itself, information on the socket has been very sparse. Yesterday, however, igor"sLAB released some of the finer details on LGA 1700 that go into a lot of depth to discuss various technical aspects of it. Those interested in those details can read more about it here.
