ZTE"s Axon 20 5G, the first smartphone you can actually buy with a camera hidden under the display, is now available to buy in markets all over the world. The phone comes with a price tag of $449/€449/£419, a fitting price for its otherwise upper mid-range specs.
The star of the show with the Axon 20 5G is obviously its selfie camera, which is hidden behind the display, where you would usually find a notch or hole punch. ZTE implemented a lot of technologies that allow the camera to see through the pixels on the display, in addition to camera algorithms to reduce the effects of seeing through the pixel matrix.
Aside from the work put into enabling the camera to work under the display, the phone features upper mid-range specs, which you"d expect for its price. It"s powered by Qualcomm"s Snapdragon 765G chipset, 8GB of RAM, and 128GB of internal storage. The battery is 4,220mAh, and it supports 30W fast charging.
The display is a 6.92-inch OLED panel with Full HD+ resolution (2460x1080), and the ambient light sensor, earpiece, and fingerprint sensor are all underneath the display, just like the camera. That selfie camera itself is a 32MP shooter, and the back has a quad-camera setup with a 64MP primary shooter, an 8MP ultra-wide-angle camera, a 2MP macro camera, and a 2MP depth sensor.
In order to buy the Axon 20 5G today, you"ll need to join ZTE"s "New Vision Club" by providing your email address. If you manage to join, you"ll get an invitation code to make the purchase from this page, and you"ll get a pair of true wireless earbuds as well. This campaign ends on Sunday, December 27, and presumably, everyone should be able to buy it soon after.
