Spotify on the Apple Watch is getting a lot more useful, especially for models with cellular connectivity. The music streaming service has announced that it"s rolling out the ability to download music and podcasts for offline listening on Apple"s smartwatch. This comes mere days after Spotify announced that it would bring that same capability to its app on Wear OS.
Just like on other versions of the app, offline listening will require you to have a Spotify Premium account, but it"s a significant change nonetheless. If you work out often, you may already know that figuring out a way to carry your phone can be problematic, and with the ability to play music directly from the watch without an internet connection, you no longer need to worry about that.
In addition to that, the Spotify app for Apple Watch also allows you to control playback across your devices thanks to Spotify Connect, so even if you"re not working out, you can play music on your TV or smart speaker and control it with the watch.
The feature is rolling out to Apple Watch Series 3 or newer starting today, and it requires watchOS 6.0 or higher. Meanwhile, while the feature has been announced for Wear OS, it"s unclear when it will actually be available. It"s possible that it"s planned to arrive alongside the launch of the revamped OS, developed by Google and Samsung.
