You can now pre-order Samsung's Snapdragon-powered Galaxy Book S

Samsung announced the Galaxy Book S back in August, and while it was supposed to ship in September, it"s been delayed in most markets. Today, the company finally announced that you can pre-order the laptop, and it will ship next month.

The Galaxy Book S was the first PC announced with Qualcomm"s new Snapdragon 8cx Compute Platform, promising the power of an Intel Core i5. The only PC shipping with the chipset is Microsoft"s own Surface Pro X, which has a slightly modified 8cx, called the Microsoft SQ1. The SoC has eight Kryo 495 cores, an Adreno 680 GPU, and a Snapdragon X24 LTE modem, which means that the laptop supports multi-gigabit download speeds.

LTE connectivity and performance aren"t the only value propositions of the Galaxy Book S and the Snapdragon 8cx though. It also has a fanless design, weighing in at under a kilogram (0.96kg) and coming in at just 11.8mm.

This is actually the first Windows on ARM device that"s not either a convertible PC or a tablet. This is a thin and light clamshell with a 13.3-inch 1080p display. It also comes with 8GB RAM and up to 512GB storage.

The Galaxy Book S starts at $999.99, and if you pre-order it from Samsung.com before February 12, you"ll get a $100 credit toward another Samsung device (remember, the Galaxy S20 is being announced on the 11th). It will begin shipping on the 13th, which is also when you"ll be able to get the laptop from Microsoft Stores and Verizon, and Sprint will start selling it on February 14.
