Last year Microsoft announced that it has approved an updated version of its original Xbox controller, created by Hyperkin. The Duke, as it was called, did not exactly set the world on fire when it launched back in 2001, mainly due to its unwieldy size. This was fixed when the company shipped the significantly smaller Xbox Controller S.
The controller - which was showcased by Hyperkin at E3 2017 - is closely modeled on the original, but now includes an OLED that will display the loading screen of the console it shipped with. Beyond that, the device will be compatible with both the Xbox One, Xbox 360, and Windows 10. Unfortunately, it will require a wired connection. Seamus Blackley, also known as the father of Xbox has played a vital role in reviving the controller, as evidenced by his fervor on Twitter.
Pre-orders of the Duke controller has gone live over at GameStop, with it officially shipping on April 1 and retailing for $69.99.
In other Xbox news, Microsoft announced that its upcoming pirate adventure game, Sea of Thieves will launch on March 20. The closed beta, which ended late last month, attracted over 314,000 players. The game will also be available through Xbox Game Pass, after the company announced that all future exclusive titles will be included in the service. This has ruffled some feathers, with retail outlets refusing to sell the game when it launches. It hasn"t affected the excitement of gamers though, with the title topping Twitch"s "most popular" live streams during the beta.
