Microsoft launched the Outlook app for iOS and Android last year, and the app was updated recently with UI changes and Sunrise calendar integration. Now, the company has started rolling out an update for the app with many new features, making it a very capable email and calendar solution on the go.
The most important feature introduced in the latest update for Outlook is the ability to schedule Skype calls from the app by simply using the "Skype Call" toggle while creating a calendar event. The participants can then join the call by clicking on the link that will be sent to them. Through Skype for Web, users who do not have a Skype account can also join the conversation as guests.
At the moment, Skype for Business calls cannot be scheduled using the application but the company has said that support will be added in a future update.
In addition to the call scheduling feature, Microsoft has introduced many more features that make the app more versatile, including a revamped calendar UI for better organization and navigation.
Some of the platform-specific features that are part of the update include contact sync enhancements for Outlook.com, Office 365 or Gmail contacts with the default application on Android and iOS. On Android, users will now be able to store attachments and files from their cloud storage to their device, and there"s also a new navigation bar to make it easier to move around the app. iOS users, on the other hand, can finally use features such as AirPrint and 3D Touch with the new version of the app.
Microsoft is taking suggestions for more features that users wish to have in the application and users can submit theirs using the "Suggest a Feature" setting.
