Earlier this year at its Build 2018 developer conference, Microsoft announced Your Phone, a new app that provides a seamless experience between your smartphone and your PC. The app will eventually allow users to make calls, send and receive SMS messages, and manage their photo library. You can even drag and drop photos to other apps.
While the app has been available from the Microsoft Store since May, it was turned on a couple of weeks ago for Insiders. But as spotted by WindowsObserver, it now works for production versions of Windows 10 like the April 2018 Update, or version 1803.
Typically, when Microsoft promotes an app or app features as part of a feature update to the OS, the app uses some APIs that are exclusive to the new update, or at least the new version is listed as the minimum build. For example, Paint 3D was exclusive to the Creators Update and higher, and you still need the Fall Creators Update for OneDrive Files On-Demand.
Apparently, that"s not the case for Your Phone, and that"s good news. That means that you don"t have to worry about it being done in time for Redstone 5 being completed next month, as this is completely independent of the operating system.
Unfortunately, the app is quite limited as it stands right now. It doesn"t do calls or SMS messages yet, and it only shows you your most recent 25 images in your phone. Also, it only works with Android devices for the time being; however, when iOS support is added, it will be quite limited anyway.
To download the Your Phone app, you can find it on the Microsoft Store here.
Update: The update to activate Your Phone has been removed for the time being.
