Google"s digital wellbeing effort saw the launch of several features in 2018 meant to help users manage their screen time and disconnect from the web when needed. One of those features is a tool that allows users to set reminders for taking a break from YouTube.
Today, YouTube introduced a new capability that will let users set reminders for bedtime. Users get to choose when they want to be reminded to stop watching videos. They can set the start time and end time for the reminder. In addition, users can decide whether or not they want the prompt to interrupt a video they"re watching at a given time or wait until the video is finished. The feature also works like an alarm, with an option to either snooze the reminder for 10 minutes or dismiss it entirely.
Bedtime reminders are accessible via the app"s settings menu. Simply log in to your account via the YouTube app and then head over to the settings. From there, toggle "Remind me when it’s time for bed" on or off. Alternatively, users can set reminders by tapping their profile picture and then opening "Time Watched".
YouTube noted that its "take a break" reminder has already logged more than 3 billion prompts since its launch. The latest feature can help users in dealing with binge-watching on the platform. It"s rolling out starting today on Android and iOS devices, with wider availability scheduled in the next few days.
