YouTube has announced that they now serve up more than two billion daily downloads. This incredible amount of traffic surpasses the three major networks primetime TV ratings, combined. The video website, which has become a household name, made the announcement nearly five years after it launched on April 23, 2005, according to the BBC.
Since the service launched, YouTube has become the place to share your videos with friends, family, and anyone else in the world that, before YouTube, would likely have never seen your video. There is no denying the power of YouTube either as anyone who uploads a video has a chance at becoming the next Internet sensation.
YouTube was launched in April of 2005 and the first video uploaded was by co-founder Jawed Karim with a short clip titled ‘Me at the Zoo’. Among other famous clips that have been spread across the internet are Susan Boyle"s performance on Britain’s Got Talent, Evolution of Dance, and most recently a young musician playing his version of Lady Gaga’s Paparazzi on the piano.
While YouTube may have been made popular for the illegal sharing of copyrighted content, the site still is facing the same issues when it first launched and regularly removes content at the request of the copyright holder. But, there is no denying YouTube’s success and their future is bright, they will surely bring us more overnight internet sensations and also help to spread breaking news around the world in a raw uncut fashion.
