For the past couple of years, Amazon and Google have been in something of a dispute over their competing video services and products. The fight was finally settled earlier this year, with Amazon agreeing to bring Prime Video to Chromecast and Android TV devices, while Google brought YouTube to Fire TV.
At first, only the YouTube proper was available on Amazon"s TV-connected devices, but today the company announced that YouTube TV, Google"s subscription service for live TV channels, is now available as well. With YouTube TV, Fire TV users can get access to over 70 live TV channels including live sports, news, and other content. It also offers unlimited DVR storage so you can save shows to watch later, and up to six accounts can be used on a single subscription.
YouTube TV has been adding more channels and features in recent months, but price increases have come along with those new additions. The service debuted with a monthly cost of $35, but has since risen twice, now costing $49.99 per month.
The YouTube TV app is available on almost all of Amazon"s Fire TV devices, except the first-generation Fire TV and Fire TV Stick. Fire TV Cube, newer Fire TV and Fire TV stick devices, and Fire TV Editions of TVs from Toshiba, Element, Insignia, and Westinghouse are all compatible with the app.
