YouTube recently announced improvements to its video recommendation feature, bringing about changes to the Homepage and Up next sections of the YouTube app on Android and iOS, and the YouTube website. The changes include the ability to remove channels altogether from recommendations, know why a specific channel or video is being recommended, and the ability to filter channels on the Homepage or Up next page using filters at the top of the app.
While the ability to remove a specific channel entirely has been available on Android and iOS, the option to filter out videos based on topics was yet to make its way to the apps and on the web. However, it looks like the feature is now rolling out to Android users worldwide. While a select group of users would have begun seeing the option earlier, a wider rollout seems to have initiated by the company.
The filters for categorizing videos reside at the top of the screen and adapt to your viewing preferences. You can scroll through the topics horizontally to pick your choice. As stated in the announcement last month, the filter option is available on the Homepage and at the top of the Up next section right below the current video that is being played.
Since the feature is gradually rolling out, fret not if you cannot see it on your app yet. Topic filters for the iOS app and for users on the web are not available yet, but it wouldn’t be surprising to see it make it to those platforms sooner than later.
