We have seen many companies show off futuristic smartphone interpretations at trade shows. While impressive, many times, these promised ideas rarely come to fruition as a whole, with only bits and pieces of the technology arriving to market. While the design of smartphones stagnated for the past few years, it took a turn for the better last year, with the introduction of near bezel-less displays.
So far this year, we have seen an advancement in design from many manufacturers, promoting a sleek look that pushes the current boundaries when it comes to displays, materials, and power. But it looks like ZTE might be thinking a bit outside of the box with its dual-screen smartphone called the Axon Multy.
According to Evan Blass of VentureBeat, the Axon Multy will be offered exclusively by AT&T, and will feature dual 1080p screens presented in a clamshell design similar to a Nintendo 3DS. When closed, the displays will be facing outwards, offering users a display on the front and rear. In its expanded mode, the two displays will combine to form a 6.8-inch screen that will look seamless. Despite it featuring two displays, the device will be relatively thin, coming in under 10mm.
As for specifications, the Axon Multy will reportedly feature Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 820 processor, 4GB RAM, 32GB of internal storage, a 20MP camera, and 3,120mAh battery. If this sounds exciting to you, luckily you won"t have to wait long, as it will apparently land on the carrier in mid-October for $650. While there have been previous attempts to introduce a device like this in the past, if ever works and looks as good as it sounds, ZTE could have a winner on its hands. Naturally, we will have to wait until its official release.
