Zynga bringing FarmVille to mobile devices

Casual game developer Zynga announced that they will be bringing their Facebook smash hit, FarmVille, to “various mobile platforms.” A Zynga spokesperson told Mashable, “Zynga plans to expand to various mobile platforms. We cannot provide additional information at this time.”

Zynga has not hinted at the platforms they are eyeing for this future release, but "information-sluething" site Superannuation discovered that they recently registered the domain names farmvilleandroid.com, farmvilleiphone.com, farmvilleipad.com and farmvillesms.com. This suggests that Zynga will be targeting more than just mobile phones.

FarmVille has more than 80 million users with over 32 million logging in daily. It is by far the most popular casual game on Facebook and kick-started the “freemium” gaming model where users can play for free, but are encouraged to buy in-game items with real money.

Developer Ngmoco currently controls the freemium market on Apple’s mobile devices with their FarmVille-esk We Rule and God Finger. Zynga is undoubtedly interested in capturing some of that market share.
