FarmVille2 is one of the Zynga games that now accepts Bitcoin.
More and more businesses, and even the government of Germany, are allowing payments via the computer generated Bitcoin currency these days. Now one of the biggest micro-transaction based game publishers, Zynga, has announced it is testing Bitcoin payments in several of its web-based titles.
The announcement was made in a rather unusual matter; Zynga used its Reddit account to alert the world of its Bitcoin test. It is working with the BitPay service provider on this program, which at the moment supports seven games that can be played on Zynga.com: FarmVille 2, CastleVille, ChefVille, CoasterVille, Hidden Chronicles, Hidden Shadows and CityVille. Zynga said it decided to launch the Bitcoin test due to its "rise in popularity around the world."
At the moment, the Bitcoin test program does not extend to the many mobile games that Zynga has released. The publisher may be hoping that connecting some of its games with the rising Bitcoin trend may help it attract new players. Zynga has been struggling, as of late, to keep its remaining customers after a period where games like the original FarmVille had tens of millions of players. In July, Zynga brought in Don Mattrick, the former head of Microsoft"s Xbox division, to be its new CEO.
