For better or worse, Google’s brand new social networking site Google+ has today seen its gaming section grow thanks to the help of Zynga’s super-popular CityVille game. The game is so popular that it is, in fact, the number one game on Facebook, and now Google+ users will be able to use up their time online via the social game.
Zynga have already partnered with Google to provide Zynga Poker with the launch of the Google+ games, but this is a far bigger occasion due to the size and enormous popularity of the game. Zynga sums this up nicely via a post on their blog:
CityVille grew to become our largest game on Facebook, so naturally we wanted to “build” a presence for it on Google+. Ultimately, we want to make our games accessible to everyone, everywhere – no matter where they play or what platform they play on.
Luckily for those apprehensive about the addition of CityVille and the spam it usually brings on Facebook, Google+ users can choose to completely ignore the games section and never receive an annoying nag from friends playing the game. According to Google, the Google+ streams of those uninterested in games “will remain focused on conversations with the people you care about.”
However for those that do want to play a bit of CityVille while they engage in a Hangout or fix up their Circles, head to Google+ now and click on the Games button in the top navigation bar. Currently the most popular game on Google+ is claimed to be Rovio’s Angry Birds; but it’s only a matter of time before it is dethroned by the social gaming king.
