StarForce Has Gone Way Too Far!

First we have SafeDisc outright blacklisting our software like CloneCD and some hardware as well. Now look at this! We have StarForce installing sneaky little drivers and controllers (read: hijacking) on our PC's. Am I just anal or am I justified in feeling very angry and violated by this secret installing of sh** on my PC.

I mean I installed ToCa - Race Driver 2, and that's all I wanted or agreed to install and I get to looking around and find this crap in my device manager! I say this is too much and crosses WAY over the line. I wonder if it even gets removed when I uninstall the game.

very intresting

Even if this is old news, it is new news to me, so I appreciate the post...

I would also like to avoid installing these games as well, as I simply cannot be comfortable with the fact that something is getting installed on my computer that I did not agree to.

So does anyone have or know of a site or reference that I can find a full list of games that use both the StarForce & SafeDisk protection schemes? I would like to avoid all of these games at any cost. TIA.

Like Ubisfot, who prevented you playing SC:PT if you had ANY form of CD burning software installed. The worst thing is, these cd protection f*ckwads are just pushing people more and more towards piracy by making their games innacessilble to legit users. Warez versions have all this crap taken out, and are starting to look more and more attractive. :(

I don't. I'm very careful of what I buy. I want full control of what gets installed on my system and the only way to not install that garabge is to not buy the game, so I don't.

and the onlything what you are doing is hurting pc game industry, other people warez the game they hurt the industry too, and the result will be death of pc gaming  (not mad at you, mostly at pirates)

only way to get all this protection out, is if people would stop pirate the games.

face it safedisc has a driver too go look for it

secdrv.sys

and 50% of games out there use secdrv.sys, and soon allot allot allot more starforce games will come out, and main reason is its the only protection so far that you can't make 1:1 copys off.

I'm not going to kill the industry by not playing it's game. If millions of people did the same as me and jus tdidn't buy or play the games, that wouldn't kill the industry, either. It would be the industry's fault for not listening to it's consumers, so the PC Gaming industry would kill itself.

Any more than making it next to impossible to play non-cracked games? If this trend continues we'll be seeing piract driven by CD protection, instead of the other way round.

Edit: besides, he can't mean downloading warezed versions if he want to avoid installing other stuff - they are far worse! I think at this stage it's CD patches that are the counter, not full warez. I've only every used no CD cracks.

reason whey they implement all this protection is becauase to many people copy/pirate pc games

the reason people pirate game, is because they set the price well up to expensive, and the game isn't worth buying... :p

pc games are 39 bucks, while console games are 49 bucks, and thats to expensive?

nice try there
