Copernic Reporter Posted November 11, 2006 Author Reporter Share Posted November 11, 2006 No, is not a copy of FlashGet, is a Net Transport clone; i opened Orbit.exe with ResHack and i see they left some BitTorrent components so since FlashGet doesn't support BitTorrent but Net Transport does, i presume it's a Net Transport copy. dcmouser
Hi neowin guys+gals, After a long discussion about orbit, and some testing and talk with the author, it seems like a false alarm and nothing wrong with the program (imho). Anyway curious might check out the long discussion here, which includes comments from the author: http://www.donationcoder.com/Forums/bb/index.php?topic=6092 -mouser Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/511043-orbit-downloader-1002/#findComment-588042067 Share on other sites
Copernic Reporter Posted November 13, 2006 Author Reporter Share Posted November 13, 2006 Thanks Dcmouser, interesting but the Orbit developer didn't replied to Mouser question: Why Orbit does it connect to their server? I think maybe because of the dht, that's fine for me but why Orbit want to connect to DuDu.com (malware) ? What's the affiliation between Orbit and DuDu.com? Zero3K
Its because they're using servers in a subnet that belongs to DuDu.com. I had a chat with support about it and he wrote that they'll find other servers to use that aren't affiliated with spyware websites. DaViD_BRaNDoN
Came across Orbit Downloader 1.32 recently at Neowin Software news. So, is it safe to use? How is it compared to Download Express? Copernic Reporter Posted January 6, 2007 Author Reporter Share Posted January 6, 2007 Yes, now it's safe. Even both (Download Express & Orbit) are download managers Orbit is very different, starting with the GUI, more features and better download speeds. You should try FlashGet too. Although azereus does a far better job of downloading torrents flashget CAN do it. DaViD_BRaNDoN
Hmm... FlashGet is a bit bloated for me. That's why I'd stop using GetRight years ago. Using Download Express now as it's not bloated. May switch to Orbit Downloader if it's resource-friendly. What say you all?
