  1. Selling a device at $1000 and $1199 will affect the demand... You don't need to be smart to know it.

  2. I wonder who uses iCloud on Windows. No selective sync. No link sharing. No synced indicators. No sync speeds. No way to know which files are synced or why a file doesn’t sync. It is the worst sync client of all windows cloud solutions. And my comments are only about the iCloud Drive part. The Photos part would require a whole A4 page

  3. Every year Apple releases new phones. Then they announce record year sales. Every year there are news of cut orders. Every year people say the downfall is finally here (I guess because it's different this time.) Rinse and repeat.

  8. Except they are cutting the new XR $750 phone the most... It's the hardware changes, not the price driving more people away. Not that the price doesn't also. Hardware changes? The hardware is great, it's the price that sucks. If the iPhone Xs was $699 and the Max at $799 they would be selling record amounts. It's 100% price here.

  10. More proof that people just don't like the changes smartphones are going through. It started with a jack, then a notch, then other things changing or going away. These companies have to realize that they can't always drive people more than they want to be driven. This is arrogance at it's worst. "Let them eat cake!" is back again, and the revolution will be one of complacency in the market.

  14. Microsoft is also buying parts from AMD. So it's likely to be pretty much the same from a CPU/GPU standpoint... Except for the massive hardware modifications that Microsoft makes to their SoCs. They are not off the shelf AMD products, in contrast to what Sony uses. Simple example: Xbox One X can hit graphics rates and qualities above a gaming PC with an i7 and Geforce 1080ti - often closer to the Titan V in performance. However, if you look at the CPU/GPU technology from AMD that is pushing this, both the CPU and GPU are far below the i7 and Geforce 1080ti in technical specifications. The XBox One X GPU is on 'paper' just an RX480 - which in technical specs should barely handle 1080p content, let alone the 2160p content the XBox One X produces. If you dig through the changes Microsoft made to the SoC - the performance of the XBox One X makes sense, if you don't it sounds impossible. ..... The same comparisons and expectation were made of the XBox, XBox360, and XB1 - all proclaiming Sony to have significant hardware superiority. Yet in actual gaming and games released, the advantages disappeared or didn't really exist when the hardware changes were 'understood'. The XBox360 was 60% less powerful than the PS3 in pure, on paper technical specifications, yet in games it was usually the winner in performance, FPS, and also offering higher quality textures and lighting. The XB1 also has no issue keeping up with the PS4, and again, the performance on paper is 20-40% less in 'theory', using just basic specifications. The XB1 does even beat the PS4, and this happens a lot in multi-player games where consistent FPS is an issue, as the XB1 has smarter CPU/GPU scheduling due to Windows, and can keep higher clock rates longer and deal with spikes without hitting thermal throttling. So don't get caught up in the 'using the same parts myth' that each console generation and users get caught in.

  15. Five reasons iPad Pro cannot be your next computer

I've got another reason: The form factor is too small, especially for the smaller model. I think people sometimes forget that part of the reason that Netbooks weren't a sustainable market is because the devices required you to hunch over and look down. Cramped keyboards aren't fun to use, either. It's fine for kids but not for adults.

There's a reason Huawei, Xiaomi, and others are seeing a rise of success, as the big dogs keep going up.

The XR is clearly the step-child, so to act like it is affordable (when it already costs more than the iPhone 7), is just an insult. You pay more for less. I don't mean less functionality, but you are no longer getting the flagship product for that price-point. The Xs and Xs Max are just stupid expensive.

  23. I think that many people just don't find it necessary to upgrade to the newest and latest phone. An older one works perfectly fine. I don't plan on upgrading my Pixel until it breathes its last physically. I mean, I don't play Fortnite on it, but most people don't. Their "big features" are bezels and larger screens. Most people can make do without spending $1000.

  33. Adobe Photoshop Elements 2019 makes its appearance on the Microsoft Store

(Jumping into thread, not necessarily a direct reply) ...skip Paint.net - at best it will ruin a promising/beginning designer. It's workflow is not designed well and it lacks many key features, like freaking Pen/Stylus Pressure input. I have had to 'break' so many bad habits of users that started in Paint.net or similar limited products. Even friends and family, and I wish I could just erase the 'dumb crap' they picked up. Photoshop is a bit much for beginners as well, and I could also argue that it is still using several outdated UI/UX concepts for the sake of not alienating long time users. There are a lot of options from free to professional grade at reasonable prices. Try stuff out, take advantage of free trials and also check out the 'official' tutorial videos available. If the user's intent is to produce truly professional work, and get started immediately - the best product available today is Affinity Photo. It is in the Microsoft Store or from Affinity directly - the Microsoft Store version is identical, but easier to maintain and activate - as you can install it on 10 of your devices, and not fuss with losing activations, etc. It retails around $50, but also pay attention to the Microsoft Store, as it is often on sale for around $20-30. Affinity Photo is easier to use than Photoshop, and some tools have more power/intelligence, like the inpainting features. Affinity is a professional grade product, that is a lot easier to dig into with a few quick tutorials that are focused on subjects to get someone completing specific tasks even before becoming fully comfortable with the software. Affinity Photo also works in tandem with Affinity Designer the equivalent of Adobe Illustrator. Vector tools like Design/Illustrator are essential for any budding graphic designer/artist. This concept is often overlooked, and often even professionals, stumble with masks in a Bitmap Editor (Photo/Paint Software) when they could accomplish the same tasks in a tiny fraction of the time in a true Vector tool and then move that work into their Bitmap Editor. CorelDraw and its CorelPhotopaint are also worth considering, even though PhotoPaint is starting to show its age in features. In terms of Vector abilities CorelDraw has a lot of power that is easy to use. Student and Home versions are available for around/under $100. Skip their subscription - it is too expensive for too few products compared to Adobe. If you need professional licensing - look elsewhere like Affinity or Adobe. In terms of free software, there are few products, but be careful that you aren't learning the wrong way, and when you hit the limitations of the free products, you will spend a lot of time and money making up for a poor choice. So, skip Paint.NET - and also skip GIMP... It is more powerful than Paint.NET, but at a cost of your sanity. It is a horrible, yet ironically customizable UI with a horrible engine that has a ton of code redundancy when running on Windows. Also... Give Affinity Photo a chance - it truly impressed and it also is fairly cheap at $50 or less if you grab it on sale. Which makes it easy to recommend to friends and family or just buy them copies. (I also have nothing to do with the company, in case anyone was wondering.)

Consider there would be going from x86-x64 to x86-x64 architecture they better be. Can't use the excuse (for not putting the time, money and energy) coming from PS3 Cell (evolved PowerPC Chip) to x86-x64 architecture. Compatibility simply is not that simple...

  41. Apple has reportedly cut production orders for its 2018 iPhone models

That is what happens when products mature. Do you remember around the turn of the century when a PC felt obsolete after 2 years? The days when every new release had some hot new feature you had to have. Now people are happy keeping their computer for 5+ years (unless you are a gamer or have some kind of workstation class workload). That is just what happens. After a while, it is harder to come up with must have ideas. With every iPhone release, you can point to the hallmark feature. The 5S it was TouchID, the 6 it was larger size, the 6S was the first iPhone with gaming worthy performance, the 7 was water resistant, the 8 has wireless charging, the X has OLED, the Xs has (???). With each new version, the key feature becomes less and less important. I don't know anyone who makes a big deal about wireless charging, so for them, the 8 wasn't even a worthwhile upgrade.

  42. Apple is back to their old 90s thinking, and it's why my daily driver isn't an iPhone anymore. Their my way or the highway inflexibility is turning customers off. 1) Siri sucks and lags behind, almost on purpose now a days, just to spite users for not using home kit or Apple Music. - Siri can't interface with any of home automation products without expensive hubs or incompatibility with basically every other voice assistant. - Can't play spotify music - Has no advanced routines 2) No touch id, sorry, but there is no reason why this shouldn't be included, apple pushed bezel-less displays too soon, and axed one of the most pivotal ways to use your phone. Face ID sucked on the X, it was garbage. The XS and XR improved dramatically, and it's finally usable, but I couldn't believe how ###### of an implementation it was on the X. Straight ###### for a $1000 device. That right there turned me off from ever buying a flagship iPhone for awhile. 3) Their cameras still lag behind other competitors. The OG pixel is still better. 4) Still no USB C, which is insane to me, as their seamless macbook products use it, and you ruin how clean they look with silly a to c adapters. 5) No major UI changes since iOS 7, and even then it was just a fresh coat of paint, android is really stealing the show on intuitive ways to use a home screen, UI, AI, Voice assistant. 6) Back to AI, they don't have it. Google does it so well it's creepy. Neural processing, same thing. Kudos for dedicating a processor part to doing that, but still years late compared to others on providing similar functionality. All in all, asking for over 1000 on flagship devices that don't do what a 549 device can do in the android world is asking quite a lot, and I think consumers are actually seeing that. And no, people aren't upgrading because their phone works fine for longer than 2 years, it's because the price sucks now. There was nothing wrong with their iPhone 4s when the 5s came out, yet year after year people would upgrade, providers even banked on this fact and offered iphone upgrade plans. Oh and ub-subsidized costs. A $10 discount for financing a phone for 24 months, or buying it outright doesn't make up that lost on post paid carrier plans.

  43. first thing that turned me off from the new iphones... lack of fingerprint readers... yeah it has face id but maybe I just want to use my finger? my note 8 has face rec, iris rec, fingerprint... (although the reader on the back of the phone is annoying as heck apple had their position right but of course that took up screen space).... next thing was that stupid notch... but of course everyone wants that now on their phones right? so bring the notch to all!........ then there's the price.... always going up, but not much changing... but hey at least we caught up with OLED, something the rest of the world had for years now....
