Need software to write .img file to hard disk

Question

As per the title, I am looking for a program that can write a bootable image file to a hard disk, I don't have a bootable USB key and I have something I need to test. Thanks (for the record I am attempting to try out Chromium OS on an old slow laptop)

I don't think it is possible. You could try and convert the .img to an ISO then use Daemon tools to mount it and boot from that. I used to do that with old longhorn installs. Mount the ISO then restart computer and it would work fine.

http://www.backuphowto.info/linux-backup-hard-disk-clone-dd

For example, restore the whole hard disk (/dev/sda) from the image file "disk1.img":

dd if=disk1.img of=/dev/sda

Restore the first partition of /dev/sda from the image file "disk2.img":

dd if=disk2.img of=/dev/sda1

I don't have Linux or OSX installed

Use Undisker.

Thanks, will try that and get back to you

Tried that, will only write to USB drives, not internal drives

Isn't there a bootable ISO of Chromium OS, or does the laptop not have a CD-ROM drive?

Nope. Image file for writing to USB, VMWare, and Virtualbox images. My hope is that the bootable image file will also work when being booted from a hard disk
