Wayne Rooney had hair transplant at Harley Street clinic

The footballer Wayne Rooney revealed on Twitter that he has had a hair transplant at a clinic in London.

The folically challenged Manchester United and England forward said on Twitter that he was "delighted" with the outcome of the procedure, which took place at a clinic in London's Harley Street.

"Just to confirm to all my followers I have had a hair transplant. I was going bald at 25 why not," he said hours before England's game with Switzerland at Wembley on Saturday.

He also asked for tips on the best hair gels as his scalp was "still a bit bruised and swollen".

His wife, Coleen, tweeted: "Hiya!! Yes waynes had his hair done! His own decision not me asking him, like alot are saying!! Pleased for him and it will look great."

The England star, who is paid up to ?200,000 a week, was seen leaving the Queen Anne Street Medical Centre on Thursday. Pictures of him leaving the clinic wearing a grey hooded tracksuit and baseball cap were published by The Sun newspaper.

Until his series of tweets he had declined to comment on reports that he underwent two treatment sessions.

On Saturday, Rooney's teammate Rio Ferdinand joked on Twitter: "Just don't go down the wearing a alice band route!! You'll be doing head&shoulders adverts soon! Hope its gone ok Good luck lad."
