Dmitry G
Hi guys, I am having a little issue with an old server PowerEdge 1750 which has a 32bit Xeon CPU shown in the attachment. I am looking to rebuild it, add some more memory, install 64bit OS but obviously the CPU is not compatible. So just wondering if I should/can upgrade the CPU and what will be supported by this old machine? Any ideas? Thanks in advance! guitmz
upgrade costs less than buying a new one :) btw where is the attachment? Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/1006788-dell-poweredge-1750-cpu-upgrade/#findComment-594091640 Share on other sites
Dmitry G
Ooops.. was talking to someone while I was making the post! Haha Well don't know, maybe its cheaper for me to buy a basic server that has 4GB RAM and 64bit CPU. I know Xeons can cost quite a bit! Dmitry G
I wanted to compare the prices of upgrading to buy a new one. T110? Needs to be R-series as it has to be rack mounted! :) Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/1006788-dell-poweredge-1750-cpu-upgrade/#findComment-594091756 Share on other sites

Dmitry G
Just took a quick look, thank you for that link - very handy!! One thing though, none of the CPUs support 64 from that upgrade list :( new server it is! Edited: On the site it lets me choose to have 64 bit Server 2003 when Intel's site says the CPU is 32bit.. dont get it! guitmz
Yeah me neither, just saw that... I guess 1750 doesn't supports 64bits processors (?). Did you found anything on the left menu on R-Series servers? There are some alternatives :) Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/1006788-dell-poweredge-1750-cpu-upgrade/#findComment-594091820 Share on other sites
Dmitry G
Just looking at R210 in the premier site of Dell. Got one configured for under ?600 which isn't too bad considering it has 4GB RAM, DRAC and RAID 1 with 2x250GB. guitmz
W/O OS and with 64bits support? What's ur budget? Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/1006788-dell-poweredge-1750-cpu-upgrade/#findComment-594091834 Share on other sites
Dmitry G
Well it has i3 so that has native 64bit support. That's without O/S as we have copies here anyway so that's a massive save. Haha Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/1006788-dell-poweredge-1750-cpu-upgrade/#findComment-594091866 Share on other sites
guitmz
Indeed, a monster save haha seems a nice choice ;) Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/1006788-dell-poweredge-1750-cpu-upgrade/#findComment-594091880 Share on other sites

Did you found anything on the left menu on R-Series servers? There are some alternatives :) i havent researched myself, but it's not the 1750 that's the problem, it's the chipset and/or cpu socket. it appears that the socket 604 doesnt support 64-bit cpu's Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/1006788-dell-poweredge-1750-cpu-upgrade/#findComment-594091892 Share on other sites
Dmitry G
Looks like upgrading it is just a waste and time to invest in a new one(s) as I have 2 of these which at the moment just collect dust in the data centre!
