I paid $60 for my XP Pro copy, direct from Microsoft. Then paid $40 direct to Microsoft for XP Home. :-) My boyfriend and I also each won a copy each from Microsoft for answering some quiz questions on their web site before the official launch. Four copies, total. All Legit. $100 paid.

Weasel: Alienware? I think not. VOODOOPC.com 20x better pc if your going to pay someone to build it.

Also you people out there who go and spend all that money just because you like the case?, you can buy the ALIENWARE PC Case direct from the people they buy them from. I happen to know thier vendors. And they sell in 3 colors that look like them. http://www.chieftec.com/products/products.htm go there and you can get all kinds of cases. But the alienware OEM ones are nicer. :bandit:

verto: I got encarta 2002 for free too from microsoft all legit. you just gotta read and look for deals. and microsoft does give free stuff. just gotta be first in line.

Actually, I warez-ed it since Windows Whistler Beta 2.

Every single build that came out, yes, I warezed 'em.

I admiss. Ooooh I feel so guilty. But i'll end up paying for the pro version anyways, I'm buying a laptop next year from my college and they're selling Windows XP Pro @ educational price with it, amongst other developpement tools.

Yaaay.

Building my own customized computer: 800 dollars

Getting DSL for a month from Verizon: 40 dollars

Downloading WinXP CORP PRO from your friend: PRICELESS

there are somthings people can afford, for everything else, theres Morphues

:D

got mines from my friend and it worked. b4 i had 3 other version, and they didnt.

oh yah, i do have legally owned software... Windows 95 on floppy disk!:D :D :D

Warez it first to see if it was worth it... And then paid ?120 today, for Windows XP Pro OEM - Purely becauseI>did> like it.

I bought Windows 2000 Pro.

Bought NT4

Warezed 98 for 1 year trying to decide if it was worth it... decided against it.

Warezed ME for a month or two to decide if it was worth it... decided against it.

95 came preinstalled on my first computer.

Conclusion... anything based on the NT Kernel rocks, stability and speed are the deciding factors for me, and with XP supporting all my games better than 98/ME did... what else is there left for me to say?

Edit: So, if Microsoft continue to turn out OS's of XP's standard, they can count on me to be a paying customer.

PS: I wouldn't have had to "warez" XP to see if I liked it if they had cared to release a trial version of the FINAL xp, instead of those RC's they sent me.

Microsoft had a training thing for people who worked in retail. Well even if you didnt work at a place you could tell them you did by using a store number off your recipt. then sign up at the microsoft retail training website take some stupid test (or use the answers you got from someone else.) and they ship you free ****. November was Windows XP Pro full OEM Not for retail version.

December was a Holiday Pack, included: FrontPage 2002, zoo tycoon, flight sim 2002 pro, fligh sim 2002 pro t-shirt, picture it! platinum, encarta 2002, asherlons call, age of empires gold edition and aoe 2, all full versions all free. I and many other people have sold our crap on ebay. FrontPage 2002 fetched 100$ and I am giving away windows xp pro on my website.

  • 4 months later...

Last time I paid for a an OS was back in 1999 (I think) and that was when I bought my computer with a dual boot of 98SE and NT4. I built my current machine myself. But when I build a machine for someone else, he/she buys a legal copy that way I don't get in trouble.

I've had WinXP Pro since a month before it was officially released, I downloaded it using Direct Connect. God I love that program!!!:D :D :D
