The Dark Knight
This weird thing suddenly started happening on my laptop a little while ago. I think it is a hardware fault. Laptop is a Toshiba Satellite M60-104 with a 17" screen and dedicated ATI Radeon x600 graphics. This weird thing happens even in the BIOS, so I know it is not a case of corrupted display drivers. Nick H. Supervisor Posted July 1, 2011 Supervisor Share Posted July 1, 2011 Woah. If it even happens in the BIOS then I'd say that's a problem with the screen. Take it back to where you bought it and get a replacement? I bought it nearly 6 years ago in England! :( Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/1009194-corrupted-graphics-on-laptop-screen/#findComment-594118402 Share on other sites
The Dark Knight
Any idea how mch a screen replacement would cost assuming this is a screen issue (which it most likely is by the looks of it)? Obi-Wan Kenobi
if you can, try to run the video output to either a VGA monitor, or an LCD....any kind of external monitor, that way you can verify whether or not it really is your monitor...although, judging from the screenshot, it is the LCD going out...try to press your hands in (carefully, of course), along where the screen is giving you problems....eg, put pressure on various spots, without cracking the screen, to see if the issue temporarily goes away...I have an old Dell Latitude C610 that happens that way, sometimes....I can put slight pressure on the back of the screen, near the hinge, and it fixes itself for a few months....it may be worth a shot, just BE CAREFUL not to break anything. My old Dell is still kicking, after many "reverse bends" to the screen. Hey, it's worth a shot, right? At worst, you can still hook it up to an external monitor (hopefully), and it still works OK. That's just my 2 cents, anyway. Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/1009194-corrupted-graphics-on-laptop-screen/#findComment-594118428 Share on other sites
cleverclogs
Ah yes a common problem with laptops, wiring becomes loose, mostly due to hinge movement. God knows how much that would be to repair, but at 6 years old, I imagine a new laptop might be in order! Lo and behold, works perfectly that way! Ah yes a common problem with laptops, wiring becomes loose, mostly due to hinge movement. I am already planning to get a new one, but that is only coming next month, family members are going to England for a holiday, they will be getting it for me. The Dark Knight
Ok, thanks guys. Taking it now to the Toshiba service center, lets see what they say. Hopefully it won't cost too much! Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/1009194-corrupted-graphics-on-laptop-screen/#findComment-594118474 Share on other sites
FiB3R
100% fault with the screen. The connections where the ribbon cable attaches to the screen have separated. If you press along the edge of the screen/bezel you can probably effect the image. This is only repairable with expensive hardware. Not sure how much a repair like that would cost. A quick search on ebay shows you can get a used replacement screen for ?65.00 or a new one for ?82.25 Personally, I would charge ?20 to carry out the replacement of the screen.
