Ie 6.0

Question

Hello!

Can anyone tell me why since installing IE6.0, I cannot download most files I want to anymore? I get a blank page with a 1/4" box in the upper left hand corner. It looks like the little graphics icon prior to a graphic loading on a web page.

I think this is a directX problem, yet I am running 7.0 and have no problems with games, etc. I have a 64Mb NVidia GeForce 2 video card with no problems and have upgraded Quicktime. and am running 640 Mb of RAM in this Gateway 1100. I am at a loss.

If I do a system restore, going back a month and a half or so, I can alleviate the problem, but I don't have a fix...I don't know what is causing this..and that's what I really want..a fix and a reason.

Attachment is a snapshot of the page I get with the little box in the upper left hand corner.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanx!:)

Does it happens to all your downloads or just to the ones with .exe extensions, as this would seem to indicate that there is something wrong with your associations or the way IE6 is treating the file internally.

Try downloading some other files with different extensions, and see if the error appear.

It looks like something or some program has messed with some internal setting THAT if my doing a system restore it fixes the problem.

I have rc2 with the Quicktime stuff loaded and don't get that error, so I am thinking that it's not the quicktime that has affected your system.

ARGHHHHHHHHH!!!!! - Get Gator off of your computer. Also, having that many programs in your systray is a bad idea as they are sure to slow down the computer!!!

As for the problem I can't think of much as I've never seen anything like that. One thing you might want to try is clicking.... "Tools", then "Internet Options". Go to Advanced and click the button at the very bottom to "restore defaults". That MIGHT help.

Haha, I'd have to agree here. Gator sucks. It does nothing but annoy me. It has the same functions that IE already has built into it! But, I have heard, (just heard, not tested myself) that with EXE's for some reason, IE 6 want's to run them on it's own. Within the browser! But, that definatly sounds like a file association problem to me.

Gator is a SPYWARE program that is used for remembering passwords, preferences and your personal details like your address and auto enters them into forms.

It reports back to a server with the data it collects [obviously it doesn't give your passwords to the server but all the details are used by Gator to make money].

Gator is the one at the centre of the new ad technology that COVERS UP ads on a webpage with ones it's partners pay them to display. VERY bad. It also has a habit of messing with systems.

If you have it installed I recommend you get Ad-Aware immediatley and remove it. Go here for details on it: http://www.lavasoftusa.com/
