MightyJordan Posted July 23, 2011 Share Posted July 23, 2011 I'm having a weird problem this morning. I've got a Netgear WNR3500v2 wireless router. When I woke up this morning, there was no internet connection, so I rang up Virgin Media to see if there was a fault in the area. The support guy asked me to try connecting my computer directly to the modem, and the internet works perfectly that way, but every time I try connecting through the router, it doesn't work. The support guy says he can see the internet reaching the router, but then the router isn't delivering the connection to any connected devices. :( Does anyone know a way to fix this problem? Obviously, I've reset the modem and the router several times. The router is running the latest Netgear firmware, too. And just to say, no one has been tinkering about with the router settings; I'm the only person in the house that knows how to access the router settings, and I haven't touched them in months. Does a different router work Can you access the router's page with a browser ? If not to above, Have you tried a different power adapter for the router, I had one that would power on, but nothing else due to a faulty power adapter. I've reset via the power switch on the router, and I've also disconnected the power cable as well. I'll try and dig out my old D-Link DIR 615 router. I don't really want to be forced back to that though, as the reason I bought the Netgear router was because the D-Link router wouldn't allow you to open up the NAT, which caused problems gaming online on the 360 and PS3. :( Yes, I can access the router's page with an internet browser; I looked in there earlier to see if anything had changed, and every looks ok in there; it even shows that it's receiving data from the modem via the ethernet cable. And sadly, using a different power adapter didn't work either. Something different has happened though: my parents' laptop and my brother's laptop (who are both connected to the router wirelessly) got the same popup message on their laptops saying there was an IP address conflict. I've already tried that, but I'll give it another go. I don't know if this will help, but I took a screenshot of the router statistics: You can see that it is picking up something from the modem, but it's not going to the computers. DaveLegg Developer Posted July 23, 2011 Developer Share Posted July 23, 2011 Is the router picking up a proper IP address on the WAN side? Virgin like to link modems to the MAC address of the device they're plugged into, which brings issues when you move it to a different device. You can often clear this by turning it off for a while, and then back on. Alternatively, most routers allow you to 'clone' the mac address of another device on the WAN interface, so you could try setting this to the MAC address of your PC that it worked with when testing previously. Veteran Posted July 23, 2011 Veteran Share Posted July 23, 2011 Theres some misbehaving going on somewhere as the router shouldn't give 2 clients 1 IP address, or it's the problem with one of the clients not releasing an old IP when the router told it to. Anyways, yeah i'd check the WAN as the router has that page in it. then you can even check the diag page and do some pings and stuff from the router to see if it sees the internet. The modem had a little problem getting the internet connection back at first, but it is back now. And I've set the router to use the computer's MAC address, and still no luck. I've put up a picture of the WAN settings page. I've no idea what to do there, so any help on what to do next would be appreciated. Here you go: Now bizarrely, it's started working again! :) I plugged the ethernet cable from the router back into my PC to login to the router, then plugged the ethernet cable from the modem back into the router's WAN port, to bring up the IP address it's getting, and it's suddenly started working now! :) Is there anything out of the ordinary there, anyway? One of the reasons I've set the deviced up on our network to have their own IP rather than DHCP deal with it. If you want an open NAT put your xbox / ps3 IP in the DMZ. Currently using their DIR-825 and it's crap! I personally think D-Link products arn't even tested for market release. As soon as I come into some money I'm getting an E4200.
