I like it, and can't wait to see Pegasus find its way to the forum. Load times are not an issue anymore as I'm typing this; the site loads as fast as always, if not faster. I have to disagree with those saying it looks too blog-like now - where do you get that idea from?

To the dev team: Good work, and I'm looking forward to what you're going to come up with next.

Does anyone else have issues reading the preview text of an article when viewing the front page with the view set to Normal? I am finding it really hard to focus on the text, it appears fuzzy to me. Could be due to the colours used I guess.

Windows 7 (64 Bit), Chrome 12.0.742.122

Tried Ctrl+F5 but still have the issue which leads me to believe its a design issue.

First when I finally was able to load it I thought I was on Winrumors.com, lol. It certainly takes getting used to. It looks pretty clean and straightforward though I'm not sure if I'm a fan of all the gray-ness.

Also, what's the difference between all the tile settings? The previews don't actually show a preview.

Posted this here as well: https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/1015882-do-you-like-the-new-layout/#entry594202808

It's awful - brought my PC to it's knees. The settings button doesn't work and the default colours are too bright - it's actually painful to try and look at the page. The layout looks like so many other technoblogs that proliferate these days and I think the redesign is three or four steps back for Neowin. I shall probably avoid the front page from now on.

change the icon of neowin's homepage in the tab bar in firefox from grey to blue, its hard to recognise that its neowin. The forums still have the blue icon.

move "latest in software" above "keep up to date" and have the "latest gaming" below that. Remove the "most popular tags" section, nobody is bothered about that.

apart from that i like the new homepage.

Feedback is extremely welcomed so keep it coming,

Here are some tidbits about the current design.

  • Page width is the same as the last 3 designs, should actually appear wider since its no longer on a dark bg.
  • Layout of the content is pretty much the same. Everything is in the same place apart from promos. Which were just moved into a column.
  • There are some bugs with links appearing lighter in Chrome. (Thinking it may be HW Acc.)
  • Chrome 14 has a menu bug. Use a stable/beta version.
  • We had the tag cloud on the main page before

If you guys do find more bugs though, please report em. Most seem to be related to chrome/beta versions, but we'll fix what we can.

I think the hardest part, people will have to get used to the news logos being on the left, vs right.

Suggestion make the background don't move when you scroll . can look a bit trippy when your scroll fast some times.

I was thinking of doing this. If there are more request for this tweak, I'll do it.

I'm not such a big fan of the new design either. However, if you ask me why I would have a hard time answering it. The biggest problem I - and probably a lot of people - have is that we compare it to the previous design. That was awesome: Simple yet so professional whilst the new design is just simple. IMO!

Just another point, why does it take ages to load the site?

I design sites for a living, and I like this one.

Some minor alternations that I would make:

-Center top AD.

-Make logo menu item and move into main navigation.

-Rounded corners for main menu.

-Contrast comment bubbles, and top/right align with article.

-More spacing between articles and the <hr> break line.

-Get ride of the rollovers for the sub menu, there is no need to have them.

That's a definitely improvement....and it only took you what...a few hours to come up with these changes? The devs have had, I assume, months to work on this 'new' design...

Kudo KeR! I really hope they make those changes!

Now that it's all running smoother then earlier I can actually see the previews of said tiles :) Also, I like how the frontpage scrolls up to below the blue menu bar when you press next at the bottom.

Ugh this is horrible.

1. Loads slowly

2. Scrolling is very slow on the site now compared to other sites

3. The Dropdown boxes don't work in Chromium, I'll hover over them but if I move my mouse to click on a action the drop-down box disappears -_-

Working on the speed issues, we're getting a ton of requests compared to a normal of around 80 requests/second/server, we're currently having to handle around 250. This will be a combination of people needing to cache the new content, and search engine spiders etc. I'm doing what I can to bring extra capacity online at the moment.

Ah, makes sense :) I was surprised everyone was going to Neowin to see the new design :p but now its understandable.

I think people dont like the new capital N because on the forums its just n. Just a thought :)

Also the "Tip us!" sounds like your asking for a tip........"Contact us!" would just be much more simple. It also makes no sense (as I thought it was a UK thing):

In the English language, tip may refer to:

(Worldwide): a gratuity (a voluntary additional payment made for services rendered)

(UK, Australia, Ireland, New Zealand): a place for disposal of domestic waste; a landfill

I dont like the new design too much but we'll have to get used to it.

Is this site kicking out Chromium support now then? I just tested and it's better in Chrome but unusable in Chromium, I use Chromium as a part-daily browser due to a bug-fix that's not present in Chrome yet and this is unusable. Goodbye Neowin I must say if it's not fixed.
