I love it even more now. It's great that the Devs have been listening to peoples concerns and wishes and working hard at them. Definitely best not to go too overboard with the options though as it will become a confusing mess. I think they've pulled off the right balance now. :)

Repost from previous thread:

Changes I'd like to see:

1. An option to disable the "in Software/Gaming" short news alerts, without them being replaced with the proper "big news alerts". There's no need to go overboard in trying to highlight the Gaming and Software categories. We already have "Latest in Gaming/Software" sections on the right-hand side anyway.

2. An option to disable all tooltips.

3. Removal of the "About the Author" section in articles. Again, it's simply over-the-top.

4. A border around the "number of comments" box on the front page, just so that it stands out a bit more.

5. A darker colour for the actual body of text in the articles.

6. The hover menu on "Forum" (next to "News") has subsections - "Forums" and "Blogs". Renaming "Forums" to "Posts" or "Recent Posts" etc would make more sense in my opinion (well more than Forum -> Forums). Alternatively, just have "Forum" as a link to the forums as recent posts and blog entries are already located on the right-hand side anyway.

7. A better favicon. The full logo (not just the "N" bit but also the white circle border) would look nicer.

Apart from the above, I feel that the comments could stand out a bit more and also if the RSS logos were changed to their traditional orange colour it would liven the front page and hover menus up a bit.

Edit: Forgot to mention that "Tip Us!" could have a better placement. It feels too prominent in its current location.

Definitely liking v1.1 more than v1.0. Glad to see the community being listened to. (Y)

At least post your browser so they know where to check.

Good for changes but "Expanded Width" - holy crap that looks bad!! Good it's only an option for those who like it. I can't see why people would want to fill their peripherals with all that Neowiness! :p If you are browsing on a 24-30" doing WUXGA and higher then holy crap!

Loving the work guys, as always. Two minor suggestions:

  • Is there something that could be done to make comment replies distinctly seperate from comments?
  • Could you get rid of the "Click here to go back to neowin.net" tooltip thing when hovering over the logo? It's pretty standard to click the site header to go back to the site root, the tooltip looks a bit... tacky IMO.

Aside from that though, it's the best Neowin theme to date :)

Excellent job on the v1.1 update.

The extended width option is most welcome. Would it be possible to also increase the length of the article text previews (before the 'more...') to a consistent 3 lines for each?

Keep up the great work!

I am not a Dev but that part isn't a article "preview" in the normal old way. That part is (supposed to be) a short introduction to the article and has a limit. So you wont get more wording there as it's seperate from the actual article.

Ah, I see, thanks for the explanation.

Currentl,y some of the introduction texts end with '...', suggesting that the text has been truncated in order to fit within a specified word limit. With the extended width option selected, I assumed it would also be possible to increase this introduction text word limit. Perhaps not.

Much better than the last iteration: I think we can all agree.

However, I think that Legacy should be enabled by default simply for the consistency it'll have with the forums. As it is, the transition from the main page to the forums is like going to a whole other site.

And once again, I would love it so much if there was an option to disable those three images on the top.
