Here is a spare time project I've been working on, SmoothTranscode. It's designed to be an easy to use video or audio file converter, based upon FFmpeg which means it supports a wide range of formats. I've designed it to be simple to use yet powerful, which means I intend to have a more user friendly user interface than many video converters available while retaining complete control over the end result.

It can be downloaded from this site, with source code available from GitHub.

This is an early development release (version 0.2), which means I have not yet been able to implement all the features I wish to have, and many features may not yet work as intended or may be buggy. However I do consider the core functionality to be stable enough for a general release. Feel free to report bugs or suggest improvements you'd like to see.

.Net Framework 4 Client Profile or better is required to use the software, with a modern processor (Core 2 or better) recommended for video conversions.

cant test it at the minute as not on my pc, will try it out tomorrow...

also, a few typos on your site. cleaver is a butchers implement, you mean clever.

Whoops, you'd never know I put the site together quickly while a better one is in the works.

Very nice software, congrats. Btw, I've just found two ''esthetic'' bugs.

''SmoothTranscode 0.2 Released'' but the about box says:

Desktop shortcut says ''Treanscode'':

and a last annoying bug or maybe feature: it doesn't remember the last used location (input/output)

Thanks for pointing that out, they have been fixed and the installer has been updated.

Does it forget while using the software, or after closing and reopening it? Also is it on both the open and save windows or just one? I did have some problems during development when it would always open the dialogs on a specific directory, which I thought I had fixed. I'll look up the open/save windows documentation and try to see where it's going wrong.

I've just released version 0.4 of SmoothTranscode, featuring a reorganised user interface, full 64-bit support, various bitrate options, frame rate support, advanced options for H.264 encoding as well as other improvements. It can be downloaded from its software page.

My next priority is to improve the website, which is currently quite basic, including completing the software documentation which is used by the help facility in the software. After this the plan is to introduce 2 pass encoding, video post processing (e.g. denoise, HQ scaling, etc) and other improvements.

I've just released version 0.6 of SmoothTranscode, which once again can be downloaded from its software page.

Improvements for this release include 2 pass encoding, video post processing (deinterlace, denoise, etc), more information displayed about the input file and the conversion process, as well as lots of other small tweaks and bug fixes. As always let me know your feedback.
