[UK] Will Freeview HD Be Automatically Picked Up?

Recommended Posts

Hello!

I asked this on another forum, but it's pretty centred around US shores, so I thought I'd ask here too.

In the Midlands, we've lost BBC2. I haven't re-tuned yet as I only want to do it once and can wait another 5 days, although I have lost my BBC1 as well.

However, when full digital is switched on in a few days, if a channel is broadcast in HD, will I automatically pick it up? For instance, BBC1 HD is supposed to be on channel 50. So, if I turned over to channel 50 on my HDTV, will it be BBC1 HD?

What would be displayed if I was to tune in on an non-HD TV?

Thanks

If you have a Freeview HD box, it'll pick up the HD channels regardless of your TV type. If you have a standard Freeview reciever, it won't pick up the HD channels.

Some devices dont auto tune so you will have to rescan in a few days, if your device is capable of freeview HD the channels will show up from 50-54, if your device isnt freeview hd capable then channel 50-54 wont show up at all.

Hmm, so I guess it depends what type of tuner is in the TV as I don't have an external box to tune for freeview.

The TV was bought a year last February. It's an LG 37LH3000 - I don't think it does have freeview HD :(

Hey,

I don't know if this is any use anymore, but judging by the telly you've got, you will not be able to receive Freeview HD. You will only be able to receive Freeview in standard definition. In order for you to receive Freeview HD, you would need a Freeview HD receiver. This is as your current telly only receives broadcasts broadcasted using DVB-T, while the HD channels are being broadcasted using DVB-T2. Sadly, DVB-T2 is not backwards compatible with DVB-T.

Hope this helps.

Yeah, sorry I forgot to report back.

It doesn't pick up the channels. That's a bit stupid, I bought an HD TV to show HD, why put a SD TV tuner in there? Unless the HD ones were not developed enough? Tut.

Seems if I want a Samsung TV, over 50", with Freeview HD, it MUST come with 3D too. Boo to that! Ha ha.

Good info though (Y)
