Forgive my ignorance but I'm new to the game.  I have the PS4 version (which I don't even think the gold bonus applies to) and I have more money then I know what to do with.  What do you even use tons of gold for?  Most of the stores sell crap that's worse than what I've crafted/found (on my first playthrough even... without handing down items from prior playthroughs).  The crafting prices and such are low compared to how much gold I find just adventuring.  My limiting factor is getting ingredients (you can't buy those can you?)  My gems upgrades are done up till I need some ingredient I don't have in addition to just money.  My blacksmith upgrades are done well past my level (and they carry over to other characters so that even LESS they'll have to spend in the future).  I don't even know what I could be saving up money for so why I would care if the money drops were multiplied, I already have more than I know what to do with.

I'm not sure how much has changed in the last patch.  I do know that they have things scaled differently on PC than they do on Console. Prior to 2.1 patch (and things may have not changed), upgrading to the highest GEMS was crazy expensive and re-enchanting an item can also get very expensive.

Those two big money sinks don't really exist until you are at level 70.

TBH there really isnt anything to buy anymore now that there is no longer an auction house. Pretty much you can use gold to buy recipes in act 2 for some high level gear. then you just hope you get a random spawn vendor that will sell you recipes for legendary items. other than that Money is just used to repair your crap.

Can't express enough how much I love playing as the Crusader :D Only had 3 legendaries, 2 weapons and the plans for a weapon.

My costs to repair and craft are only a tiny fraction of what I make doing the missions.  I'm on Act III now (level 35ish) and I didn't even know you could buy recipes for legendary items, guess I missed that.  I got two set recipes and a legendary recipe so far from drops but they were all in the level 20 range when I was well beyond that.  Also they require ingredients that apparently require me to salvage legendary items to obtain (unless I missed a store that sells those ingredients as well).  I don't have many legendary items yet so I can't see myself destroying them to make items that I've already out leveled.  When I out level them I put them in storage for my next character, so far I only have like 5 things in storage plus what I've got on.

I'm really disappointed in the stores.  Usually in games stores sell items well beyond what you can currently use for way more than what you have giving you some incentive to save up money and power up to get them.  Again unless I missed it (which is entirely possible since I apparently missed the legendary recipes) the items I've seen the stores selling tend to be about the same or slightly weaker than what I already have making the stores all but useless.

It would also be nice to be able to buy whatever that item is it's asking for to continue unlocking the gem upgrades (can you?) and the legendary item ingredients instead of having to destroy the few legendary items I do manage to find.  They could charge a ton of money for these to make sure you don't do it too much but at least that would give you something to save gold for.

I also find the whole loot tailored to your character to be taken a bit too far.  My gf seems to often get big two handed axes with her Wizard and they have huge Int bonuses.  Who's going to use a big giant axe with their wizard?  She gets axes so often in fact we thought it might be bug because it took some time before she got her first wand and in that time she got multiple axes.  It doesn't seem to be so bad anymore but I think she's found like two legendary axes and no legendary wands.  It wouldn't be so bad if she could store the legendary axes for a barbarian or something but why would her barbarian want an axe with a giant Int bonus instead of strength?  They should have either not dropped so many axes for her OR what axes they did drop should have been still STR bonuses (or even VIT) so she could use them for an axe based character.  Same with bows, all bows should be DEX or VIT not STR or INT in my opinion but oh well.

Yes, the merchants in Diablo 3 are consistent with the ones in D1 and D2 which is to say that they are useless.  Perhaps the one exception being the ring and amulet vendor in Act 1 because you can generally get one from that vendor prior to one dropping for you.  Squirt, in Act 2, sells the Hellfire Ring and Hellfire Amulet plans for 2 million and 4 million (respectively).  The biggest money sink goes to gem upgrades at level 70.  Going from Marquise gems to Flawless Royal will cost you 81 Marquise, 9.8 million gold and 4 death's breaths.  Upgrading gems you leave you broke...trust me...

I don't "get" some of these design decisions either... The game has been a pendulum motion of changes since it has been released. When the game was designed around the Auction house it was pretty rare to get anything with the stats you were looking for.  You'd play all day on your Wizard and maybe only see a handful of +int items that didn't also have undesirable stats (dex and str). That was the biggest complaint in the game, so now the developers have swung in the other direction where most drops have your stats even if they do not make sense from a role-playing perspective.

Mind you, the axe with high int on a Wizard may still be a good weapon. Wands and Sources have a chance at some wizard specific stats and tend to be much faster cast speeds which make them more desirable (if the other stats are good).

When you get to "end game" and are rerolling stats on gear at the mystic you'll burn through your gold in a hurry. Sadly. Outside of that gold has very little use any more since they shut down the auction house. Rerolling stats on gear can end up costing you millions, if not tens of millions.

Oh yeah. Can't forget upgrading gems and crafting armor too. Those can require a lot of gold as well. To make a max tier gem it takes around 6-7 million gold if I remember correctly, from imperial.

I guess I've upgraded to whenever you need the first death's breath or whatever... whenever it switches from just needing money to actually needing stuff. I don't have the stuff and as far as I know can't buy it so for now at least I'm "done" and have tons of money left. It just seems to me at this point at least the limiting factor is the stuff not gold.

I guess that's our problem with wanting things to fit in a role-playing perspective more than just min-maxing stats. Maybe some of those axes would have been great for a Wizard but she just doesn't want to run around with dual handed axe wielding wizard.

On consoles at least they put a lot of effort into coop play though with 4 player local coop, nemesis generation, legendary gifts, and such but the tailoring of drops to your character works against that. She's not going to use a bow, crossbow, or hand crossbow on her wizard but she occasionally gets them. My Demon Hunter would love to use them but the fact the game keeps slapping INT bonuses on them really hurts that if she wanted to give it to me. Even besides giving it to me if she wanted to make a Demon Hunter character later and use the sweet Legendary Bow she got it's sabataged by the stupid INT bonus instead of DEX. The Armor works fine because I think anyone can use most of them and they just look different depending on which class equips them. But certain weapons/shields seem tailored to a specific class or pair of classes featuring the same attribute preference so it seems like it would have made more since to restrict those items to those attributes with VIT being the catch all. If you really want to play a Wizard with an Axe then even if Axes couldn't get INT bonuses you'd just look for one with VIT instead since that applies to any class. Anyway we're still having a blast playing the game. I'm not sure I'll be spending a ton more time playing it solo but it really is fun sitting on the couch playing coop with the gf on the living room TV.

It's for whoever enjoys it. I don't see us grinding through trying to get loot after the story is done and we hit level 70 yet that's what many people here seem to do (and indeed the game is designed to support that.) We'll play our current characters till they hit the level cap and we finish the story then we're done with them. We'll make new characters, pick one of the difficulties that finishing the game unlocks and play through again. Over the life of the console we'll jump in and run missions here and there, it's a long term thing for us, but we aren't going to spend hours on end grinding for better loot with character that have finished the plot and reached the level cap, that's just not how we play. Is it different from others, probably, is it "wrong" no.

Right now Diablo III is our coop focus so we play it the most but since we don't have much gaming time it will likely take us a couple months each run through. When Skylands: Trap Team comes out it will likely take our coop living room focus from Diablo. That doesn't mean we'll never play it again but it will get even less of our limited time. Other coop games like Alienation and the Gauntlet remake may very well take the focus as well. We've already finished all the other skylanders and knack so Diablo III is just another step in a long road of Coop games for us.

Works well on PS Vita remote play :D

Just map something to R2 that is passive or on a long cool down.

Yeah the PS4 tweaks have made the game for me.  I skipped the PC version because I found Path of Exile and Torchlight 2 to be superior on PC. (just my personal opinion, please don't launch a holy war).  I LOVE Diablo III on the PS4 though largely because of 4 player local co-op and Remote Play.  The Nemesis feature and gifts are pretty cool too and it helps that the PS4 version drops the always online requirement.  I don't even have a battle.net account and the game works fine. :)

The game is tight on console. I like PoE and Torchlight 2 as well, but for some reason D3 has kept my interest for longer than those other ones. It won't turn into a holy war so long as you promise to keep discussions of those other games in their own official threads (unlike some people......)

My step-sons like playing Diablo 3 on 360 with me. I'm really torn on getting Ultimate Evil Edition on 360 now, wait for it to go on sale or be sold used for cheaper, or wait until I get a PS4 and get it for PS4.  Thing is, I'm not sure when we will get a PS4 but I doubt it will be this year.

I really love playing Hardcore mode on D3 but after losing my 3rd level 70 in Torment 1 due to lag/DC/Internet issues, I've basically abandoned hardcore.  I'm fine with dying and losing my character...so long as it is a fair death.  I may play my hardcore character on console only since being online isn't required.

Apart from being 30FPS it's awesome.

I was playing on my iPad streaming through SplashTop Desktop.  Ran well, but the controls sucked :(.  There was a nifty "hotkey" thing that let me place buttons on the screen (i.e., 1-4, Q), but it wasn't really playable for long durations.  Frame rate and graphics were good.

As long as you keep upgrading your gear you will never not be able to solo, even on the hardest difficulty settings.

In fact with the best gear in the game you'll be wondering if there should be higher difficulty levels.

I don't know if this is true or not but I've heard the drop rates are higher on consoles as well. So time investment to get high end gear isn't as much as it is on pc.

Does anyone play HC on consoles?

I've been playing this on PS4 for the last couple of days (I originally had it on PC but didn't get very far) and it's awesome. I have some really really stupid questions if you don't mind...

I've not finished Act I and I'm already level 27, this is normal? Won't I hit the cap way before the end, or is the idea?

What happens when you reach the end? What's left? I'm assuming there's end game stuff but how does that work on consoles?

I had more questions but they've escaped my brain for now... :D

You level pretty quickly during the beginning of the game but it does slow down. I'm surprised you're that high of a level and no at least near act 3. You should be near the very end of Act 1 then. Also, most likely if I had to guess you're playing at a lower difficulty and steam-rolling monsters, I would suggest bumping the difficulty up one notch.

When you reach the end, you won't (shouldn't) be level 70. Obviously, you want to hit level 70 and then start doing Bounty Runs/Rift Runs. These will increase how strong you are through weapon drops, the main goal is to level up your Paragon Points (look into what that is) and becoming stronger.

Hopefully that answers the questions.

I play on PC and do not know what all is different between the PC and console.  That being said,

The monsters, item drops, quest rewards (etc) level with you.  So it really does not matter what level you are at vs what part of the story. If you wanted to, you could continuously repeat Act 1 until you hit 70.

After beating story mode, adventure mode unlocks.  Essentially the end game consists of continuously upgrading your gear through monster drops and other activities in order to fight stronger monsters at higher difficulties with a higher likelihood of rewards (i.e., better gear to fight even stronger monsters with).  There are also a number of achievements if that is your thing.

Yeah I've just gone on to Act 2 couple of missions in, level 29. And no I've moved up to the highest difficulty I could! I think the next one unlocks at stage IV. I do explore a lot though try and uncover the whole map, loads of dungeons and monsters.

Ahhhh! So that is what Adventure mode is for! I see now. Sounds good.

Thanks for answering my questions :)

So during the season that started today if you had adventure mode unlocked previously then you have it unlocked from the start of the season.

Hardly seems like starting over completely when you start with the thing that's going to make the entire process easier. Seems like it defeats the purpose of the reset.

Yes I'm being snarky because I think seasons are a largely redundant feature and don't deserve season exclusive legendary items.

You also get all the stash space you had previously unlocked. Meh, I'm doing the season thing with the new clan I joined. Started a HC crusader and a normal DH. But I'm pretty 'meh' about it too. I think once you hit 70 with a season character you unlock all the transmogs for the new legendaries that can be used with your career characters. It's just a transmogs though :P
