Did I say anything about a single user testing? No, I didn't. But you don't simply go from no one using it to everyone using it. You allow a limited number of people to beta test it, and slowly bring in more and more people. And even a single person testing it should have noticed that things were missing, like the editor!

Before every single upgrade they let subscribers and staff test the new forums, usually for a good few weeks. Seriously, do you ever get tired of pretending to know it all?

Smiley Emoticons

are not displayed (Chrome 15.0.874.24 beta-m).

this is not entirely correct, one or two appear but most of them just show up as a broken image

Do we report issues/bugs in the Site & Forum Issues forum??

that is correct

Speed is picking up.

At the bottom "Community Rules" and "Quick Nav" need a space or perhaps a | between them, as right now, it's CommunityRulesQuick Nav.

It's a small thing, that can be put at #100 on the "To Do" list.

The issues we've had have NOTHING to do with Apache. Apache is totally capable of handling the load Neowin experiences, even when we have breaking news stories that attract thousands of hits. This is simply proved by the fact that the speed was fine before the upgrade, and all the was changed was the IPB software.

I don't know whether Apache is to blame or not but the statement highlighted above is stretching the truth a little. Take a look at Ambroos's post a couple of pages back as that gives a far more accurate description of the performance of Neowin.

AAaaarrrggghhhh my eyes ... how can I change the crappy bright white theme? Time to avoid the forums until this is fixed ...

WOW!! you cant even edit a post seconds after posting. I think Ill deffo leave the forums .. why change/fix something that isnt broke and break it in the process ... Mind you shouldnt be surprised its been like this for 10 years, changing things for changes sake and sometimes for the worse ... web 2.0 my A***

[edit]

it seems you can edit, its just not shown, you just use the reply butto nagain and its tagged on the end, very logical I must say ... NOT!!!!

Also has my 100Mb connection suddenly gone back in time too? It's like being on dialup again

How so? Neowin has almost-always been fine for me in terms of speed. Aside from some hiccups after upgrades, things usually get back to normal pretty quickly.

C'mon, you know you can't test every situation in a test lab. What editor isn't working also? I have no issues here but maybe that's cuz of my status as well? I tested on the test forums as a mod so maybe I didn't see those issues you guys are mentioning now.

Speed definitely improved! (Y)

The editor problem I'm talking about has been fixed, but earlier this morning the reply dialog was missing all of its toolbars.

I regularly find that it takes a long time to navigate around the forums and to post comments. Sometimes it might just take a second for the page to load and other times it takes many seconds. Sometimes I begin to wonder if the site might be down and then the page will finish loading. When posting I sometimes have to wait up to 30 seconds before the post is saved and I have to make myself walk away to avoid clicking on Add Reply again and ending up with duplicate posts

It's not unusable but it's noticeable and Neowin is definitely the slowest site that I visit.

Hey guys, as we all know, when we upgrade there is some time when we have to tweak and change things to make the site go smoother. In addition, the custom themes and tweaks take time to be implemented. I can assure you that the admins and devs are working to make the site run as smoothly as possible. Please bear with us. A little patience goes a long way. (Y)

One other problem. Clicking on the title of this thread from the New Content page takes me to the first page of the thread rather than the page I'm up to. Also, the title is still bold on the New Content page once I've finished reading the thread so it makes it look as if there are new posts (despite the fact that there weren't any).
