lake21
Hi all, I've been using my laptop to run XBMC and it has been working fine - Recently it has started overheating and turning off (probably due to me always leaving it on) Any way I've decided to on building a HTPC, Main use will be XBMC to store my music and films and eventually I will buy a Blu-ray drive. My main goals are to be able to watch 1080p movies with 5.1 surround sound, must be quiet and also be able to stay on for a long period of time without overheating. I have put together a build and I wondered if you guys could take a look and offer any advice? Currently all items are off E buyer.(trying to keep it under £250 if possible) 1 x Antec NSK 2480 MATX Desktop Case With 380W EarthWatts PSU 130945 £75.19 £75.19 1 x Asus P5G41T-M LX G41 Socket 775 DDR3 VGA Out 8 Channel Audio mATX Motherboard 190986 £30.78 £30.78 1 x Creative Sound Blaster Audigy SE 7.1 OEM PCI Soundcard 98938 £16.65 £16.65 1 x Sapphire HD 5450 1GB DDR3 HDMI DVI VGA Out PCI-E Low Profile Graphics Card 199420 £28.17 £28.17 1 x Intel Celeron E3300 Socket 775 2.5GHz 1MB L2 Cache Retail Boxed Processor 173863 £32.82 £32.82 1 x Kingston 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 1066MHz i5 Memory Kit 1.5V CL7 142085 £20.92 £20.92 No hard drive included as I already have one, please let me know if you need anymore information. cybertimber2008
CPU cooler? Thermal grease? Get case and PSU seperate. When a case costs as much as a PSU, either the case is crap, or the PSU is. TheReaperMan
for a start you do not need the soundblaster as the onboard should be more than good for htpc use. And i would go with somthing like this for the mb and cpu Gigabyte GA-M68MT-S2P Nvidia GeForce 7025 AMD AM3 7.1 Channel HD Audio mATX Motherboard 267509 £34.74 AMD Athlon II X2 250 3.00GHz Socket AM3 2MB L2 Cache Retail Boxed Processor 237554 £44.99 As i know that cpu is more than capable as i am using the same in my htpc running windows 7 with the same graphics card and run blu ray and hd tv no problem Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/1028542-htpc-advice/#findComment-594340812 Share on other sites
