Doing a little upgrading in the next week. I currently have a no-name speaker setup system with the exception of a 100W Sony Subwoofer. The rest of my speakers are left over from when my parents were younger (so 20+ years old).

My current front setup is an 8" woofer, 5.25" and 1.25" tweeter, the rears are a 5.25" and a 1" and the center is a single 2.5" speaker (its what we had in the basement).

I've got a $100 gift card to spend on Sony speakers and I can't decide between getting this center channel

or

these floor speakers

If you're going to invest in a new speaker setup, why are you buying Sony ? Sure if you're buying an all in one surround package then I can see it, but if ore upgrading a proper modular audio setup... Just no, get some quality stuff from a serious audio company. And save up and get both, otherwise, get front speakers. Then get the center later, the front speakers will make a bigger impact, but remember, big front speakers may drown out the rest of your system until you upgrade that as well.

I agree 100% with this. Save up some more money, then get something from, I suggest, Klipsch. Even if you get the super low end RC-42 II, or the next step above that, the RC-52 II. If possible, I would suggest you get the RC-62 II minimum, but I don't know your room size nor your future upgrade plans. Give us more details on your setup so we can more specifically advise you on what to get.

My current system:

AV Receiver: Onkyo TX-SR304

Center: Realistic Minimus 7, 8OHMS, 40W

Fronts: Technics SB-K23, 8OHMS, 60W

Rears: Wharfedale W 10, 50 watts, 6.5" and 2" tweeter, 4-8OHMS, 68Hz-20KHz

Sub: Sony 100W (I don't have the model. Forgot to write it down before work)

I need to use this Sony gift card by October 8th or it will expire, thus I was thinking speakers as I already have a PS3. The Gift card is for $80.

The room is about 10x15 feet

Don't know much about that receiver, but from qhat I can quickly glance, it would be a shame to waste it on Sony speakers. I would find somethign else Sony to use it on. games, controllers, accessories, pre order Vita....

Theres nothing else I really want. I use my PS3 as a Blu Ray player. I'm not going to drop a lot of money on speakers. The ones I have work and new ones aren't at the top of the list of things I want to buy. I just need to use this gift card.
