I really don't think they could push the consoles any further, at least not on their current tech. RDR was only a bit bigger than San Andreas, and considering they'd want to make a city as big and dense as GTA4... the map would have to be huge to do 3 cities and all the surrounding areas.

never underestimate them. we'll see in time though. your logic and arguments make sense though.

Rumor has it that the map is 2.5 times bigger than Red Dead. I think they're holding back news on SF and Vegas for either later reveal or DLC. But they're coming.

Yeah, what am I missing here too? They sacrificed the lod a lot and the view distance, is just embarrassing... even for an open world game developed mainly for the consoles.

Well, first of all. They both are compressed (the GTA V shots were captured in png directly from the 720p HD footage that you can download from rockstar's site, and the GTA IV screenshots are compresed in jpg format) and secondly, I wasn't really comparing per se. If you'd quote my entire post, you'd see that I said Rockstar should have payed the guy that created the ICEnhancer (the "textures") to use his work, or hire him. Because what he did with their almost four years old game, is much more impressive than what they (R*) showed in their debut trailer for GTA V.

You need a really beefy computer to run it at an acceptable framerate, there is no way in hell a console would be able to run those sort of shaders/textures in the limited amount of memory they have, as for PCs they want the game to run on as many PCs as possible, Icenhancer would severly limit the amount of computers that would be able to run it.

Maybe it's just me, and I'm not sure where you got the pictures from, but the trailer I saw did "not" look like the pictures you posted. Those pictures really do look horrible. The 720p trailer I watched was MUCH cleaner and clearer than that. Those pictures look like someone had the PC version of the game, and turned everything down as low as it would go to make the trailer.

Rockstar could make the PC version look better but in order to keep people happy, they need to maintain consistency across all three versions (PC, X360, and PS3). If the PC version looked better, then console gamers wouldn't be happy about it. What I mean is that we probably won't see any PC-specific graphical features like ambient occlusion, tesselation, etc. Rockstar would have to spend more time and money to add those features and I doubt the PC version would be the best-seller out of the three. Higher resolution graphics, advanced graphics options, and the ability to enable anti-aliasing and anisotropic filtering should be enough though. :happy:

Yeah, I've tried it back in the beta days and it ran the same as the unmodified game, with no loss of performance on my old E8400, with 4 gigabytes of ram and a 5770.

I just watched it again. Your pictures are right :( Weird thing is that some parts look very very good, while others (like in the screen shots) don't look so good. Not sure why, but the screen shot of the woman walking infront of the red convertible, like 1 second later, you can see her face clearly, and things look a lot better, but as she's walking infront of the car, looks pretty bad.

He wasn't intended to be "well off" at the end. I think Hauser was quoted as saying instead of a rags-to-riches story like other GTA's, it was a rags-to-slightly-nicer-rags story.

It sucked badly when Niko was not able to use the money in any way after the end of the story. Except the graphics, everything seemed half baked in GTA IV.

Rockstar North offer dream job for Grand Theft Auto fans

WITH youth unemployment reaching record highs, this could be the most eagerly applied-for job in recent history

The Scottish firm behind one of the most successful video games series has come up with a teenager?s dream job by advertising for gamers to test its upcoming blockbuster release.

To some, the work will be repetitive and the pay modest ? around ?14,000 a year. But then again, it is one of the few jobs which allow employees to freefall from a burning helicopter or wield a machine-gun while driving a sports car at death-defying speeds.

The company seeking testers is Rockstar North, which wants to ensure its Grand Theft Auto V (GTAV) meets the high standards of its predecessors, which have sold around 125 million copies worldwide.

After four years of development at its Edinburgh studios, the eagerly anticipated title is due to be released later this year, and the award-winning team behind the franchise is in the final stages of honing its vast, virtual universe.

To the envy of millions of gamers worldwide, the successful candidates will be based at Rockstar North?s offices, where they will be paid to play the game repeatedly before it hits shop shelves.

However, games experts warned applicants against expecting a glamorous job, as they will be tasked with playing the same sections over and over again in an attempt to identify and iron out as many flaws and mistakes in the programming code as possible.

Tristan Donovan, a computer games expert and author of Replay: The History of Video Games, said: ?The new GTA game is the major title of 2012, and for it to be anything other than a raging critical and commercial success would be a shock.

?It?s replicating a major world city, so the playing area is enormous, with bridges, skyscrapers, and alleyways, absolutely everything. It?s a lot of work to create these worlds, let alone test them.?

He added: ?Playtesting is a vital part of a game?s development process, the testing of what works and what doesn?t, because unlike a film, people can play around with a game in different ways, especially in a title like GTAV, which allows people to do just about anything.

?The image of the job is glamorous, where you get to sit around and play games all day. But you?re playing the same section of a game over and over again for months on end, checking for bugs. Actually, it?s quite a menial task. ?

Notorious for its secrecy, Rockstar North has promised GTAV will herald ?a bold new direction in open world freedom?, but has given little away about its upcoming product other than a brief trailer released last November.

In it, glimpses were given of the fictional city of Los Santos in San Andreas ? based on Los Angeles, California ? and the surrounding countryside. The advert for the jobs, posted on Rockstar North?s website, states: ?Rockstar North is looking for enthusiastic and self-motivated individuals to join our quality assurance team in Edinburgh.

?You will be expected to play our games looking for problems and accurately report errors through our databases to ensure superior game quality before release.?

No one from Rockstar was available for comment, but the industry starting salary for testers is around ?14,000. The company does not specify any minimum qualifications for the coveted full-time roles, other than stipulating that candidates must be aged 18 or over, with excellent written and verbal communication skills.

'Grand Theft Auto V' screenshots show off San Andreas setting

Two new screenshots for the upcoming Grand Theft Auto V appeared today from Rockstar, showing off the game's San Andreas setting.

The much anticipated title was first announced last year, followed by a debut trailer which confirmed the game's modern-day setting in San Andreas and the surrounding area.

Responding in a Questions & Answer section on the official Rockstar blog, a Rockstar representative confirmed more details and assets will be available in the near future.

"We are very busy working on the game! Everything is going well, but the game is a huge project. We should have more information and some new assets for you soon."

Rockstar also offered an apology for the lack of information regarding the game up until now.

"As we have said before, we have often had long gaps between asset releases on previous games and will continue to do so in the future. We are sorry if you find this frustrating, but please understand, we don't do this because we ?don't care about our fans' 'don't respect our fans' 'hate GTA fans etc' - precisely the opposite!

"We do it because we want to make sure we only release 100 percent correct information, and because we want to keep plenty back for the actual game release so there are still lots of surprises when you play it. The only things we care about are that you enjoy the experience of actually playing the game and that we release accurate information. We just have not been in a position to show more of the game than the trailer and will not be for a while yet. We did, however, manage to sneak a quick screenshot out for you... it's not much, but we thought it was pretty fun."

The release date for Grand Theft Auto V is yet to be unveiled.
