so how come you guys just dont do it your selfs? this is a community of geeks why dont you just build your own unique site rather then one built by a generic company ? not

We built our own cms already (main news pages) and since that development already cost us thousands, modifying IPB to our liking is cheaper than building our own.

fair enough my company builds unique CMS for the customers last site we did was for a company and the CMS was huge but the whole project only cost them 400 quid :p but fair enough! very valid reason as to why

Build us a forum script like IPB and we'll double that 400 :p

Just because it cost the customer 400 quid, does not mean that it was the true cost of the project. Since it sounds like a fixed price endeavour, I am quite curious to take a look at your profit and loss (P&L) sheet.

actually was a loss ... 400... we then had 80 hours to pay, along with things like server costs and electricity ect ect... the cost of the project should of been near 800 to cover everything and make clear cut profit ... we almost broke even about 100-150 short of breaking even...

That's why clients like them. They are buying an outcome. It is also why I prefer Time and Materials engagements.
