I totally agree with you. They only sell PNY memory, very expensive, and the crap sucks. Low quality ram for outrageous prices. Kingston all the way!!!! Khujo
so far in using the machine and running benchmarks it is slower then my old p4 2.533 in the majority of benchmarks and thats with a faster video card, granted my video card is oc'd to almost 9800 Pro speeds, all the graphics benchmarks i had a chance to run the machine didn't seem too fast, Windows operation and all was just fine and there was no lag in anything but the final scores just weren't as high. I don't have any strict testing methods like websites or anything but, in my last 2 days of using the Athlon 64 it doesn't make me want to switch over anytime soon. I will try raising the HTBus speed (there is no fsb on A64 per se) when i have a chance been too busy at work. The ram in the A64 is the same as i run in my P4 so i know it should run just fine @ 225/450DDR just fine which would crank the clock speed nicely, just gonna try not to burn the chip And the problem with PNY is they get there actual ram chips from different manufacterers, some will be good Hynix ram that accepts aggressive memory timings all day long, others will be Samsung or another brand that may or may not work with extreme ram timings. and for the price issue, well i get everything at cost so that hasn't been a big deal but, I even point customers to pricewatch and the like. People do pay for convienece though I know my store has a good Tech Shop with intelligent techs (ME ;) )to answer peoples questions and most other stores/online places don't have that. Those rock and recent roundup tests has shown it blows the competition outta the water in terms of speed, stability, error rate, and the blahs blahs! ooh... you get at cost price? My friend that works at Circuit City also gets at cost price... I wonder where else offers that kind of deals to employees...
Khujo
I stand corrected, after installing Windows XP 64-Bit on the machine it plain hauls ass, its an amzing difference, 4000 extra 3dmark01 points, 1000 additional in 3dmark03, 7 fps more in Comanche 4 Benchmark, and all these are just 32bit apps, its like night and day difference. Ironman273
The guy goes out and builds a system with a chip that doesn't have much info out on it and posts his results. I really don't think he's bragging about it. It's, more than anything, informative. For all of you with better scores: Great! Thanks to him posting this, now you know what an 733t machine you have. From my part, thanks for the info Khujo.

Khujo
Thanks to all those who aren't haters, the purpose of the post was to show the increase from 32bit Xp to 64Bit in performance, nothing more, If you read the whole thread you'd see i wasn't impressed with the chip to begin with, and for those who obviously don't know 7fps avg in comanche4 benchmark is a sizable gain. All reports and stuff have focused on the FX51 chips I was just trying to show my experiences with the chip. BTW Its not even my home machine its what i use at work, total cost out of pocket = $
enigma-penguin Veteran Posted October 7, 2003 Veteran Share Posted October 7, 2003 khujo... nice results.. thats alot of points just for switching to 64 bit, but i guess thats becuase the proc is stronger in 64 rather than back compatability.... thumbs up on the results man... 1337

Khujo
its not technically a Front Side Bus, its a Hypertransport link, best i can muster stable is 212Mhz or so, i run it at 2100 which is then given a divisor of 10 unlike previous systems with external memory controllers which multiplied the fsb by a number to get cpu speed, the A64 architecture does the opposite, it divides the internal core frequency by a set # to get the Hypertransport Link speed. The machine has been very stable even with the seemingly small 100Mhz overclock. I figure if i start overclocking the video card i could break 20,000 3dmark01 points. The memory i'm using runs happily at 225MHz all day long in my home machine, but won't make it that high in the Athlon64, so i think the Hypertransport bus has some affect on the overclocking potential. The memory is rated at 433DDR and wouldn't even post at 216MHz so i doubt its the ram holding it back, but i don't plan to push it too hard not trying to burn up a brand new 64bit cpu. Guess all the worries about WoW64 for running 32bit apps is completely negligable, and once 64Bit XP ships it should be a nice solid product, the one problem so far is the Lack of driver support. THeres barely anything available, luckily the Default 9800 Pro drivers worked well, I doubt any opengl tests would have worked had i tried them. Circaflex
serious he wasnt trying to say its the best out there he was just showing everyone that he built one and what it scored, he didnt want to put it head to head against your rig, i think it looks really cool and everyone knows that if it had a fully 64-bit environment it would dominate but programs are running at the native 32bit, except the last screenshot where it was in windows xp 64 bit other than that who cares if yours is faster, i think thats cool you got some expirence with that new athlon. ROCK ON :punk:
