SOPA could shut down neowin in the USA

I'm assuming this SOPA project is spearheaded by those MPAA and RIAA idiots?

Vested interests and corporate lobbyists are behind most government initiatives (particularly in the U.S.).

Who elects these idiots? By and large, we do.

Once a Congressperson or Senator gets elected, it takes something extremely egregious and/or scandalous to prevent their re-election. (Consider no less than Newt Gingrich - it took a scandal manufactured out of whole cloth to make him one of only two *sitting* Speakers of the House to fail getting re-elected to their own district; Rep. Charles Rangel got whacked by the House Ethics Committee *and* the IRS for tax evasion, yet got re-elected.)

Who elects the idiots? If you are an American voter, look in the mirror.

That is largely because, in the United States, you need lots of lots of money to run for public office. I mean, who is going to outspend Mayor Bloomberg? When it comes to elections, you need to get your name and your face out there and TV ads are very expensive.

Obama wanted to have stricter limits of corporate and union donations but the Supreme Court said that would limit their freedom of speech. So now, as always, money talks.

This is ridiculous. How does it have widespread support in Congress? In the end, this bill will harm more legitimate sites than illegitimate.

It doesn't have widespread support of course. Any time the righties can get a handful of Dem's (out of 400+ seats in the house), they call it bi-partisan and 'widely accepted' in Congress.

Unbelievable. Where are the jobs? and how does this legislation create jobs?

I completely agree that this bill has the potential to do a whole lot of harm. But for the moment I don't believe that in its current form that it will ever pass and become law. The Senate version of the bill is currently stalled....there is a hold on it (by a Republican Senator) and I don't think that hold will be lifted until the bill has been changed. I do think that enough industry giants are against that it won't past.

Neowin is a news website?

We have a similar problem thanks to IWF which has the power to ban access to any site that is "not illegal necessarily, but includes violent, adult, or offensive content" if enough people report it to the IWFs site thanks to the Digital Economy Act

someone should buy an ad in the new york time and say

Kick the ****ers in the balls. They should tell everyone

1) Don't buy or rent or go see a movie for 1 week

2) Don't buy any music for 1 week
