it's really died down around here

I'm not grumpy, and I don't think of DSLRs as a fad. Telling somebody they're misinformed doesn't make the person grumpy, Guppy.

I've made the majority of my income over the last 2 years through photography, and there USED to be a lot of photographers on Neowin that were very active.

Everyone I know now owns a DSLR and very little of them actually use them now,

I guess you have some wealthy friends. Of all my friends, I only know of maybe 4 that have a DSLR. One is a professional photographer who shoots the games for Oakland Athletics and SF 49ers. The other just finished an internship as a photographer for a climbing magazine in Colorado. The other is a hipster who is probably one you considered got swept up in the fad. The other is a photojournalism student at my school.

*shrug* I never really saw it as a "fad." Most everybody I know who was involved in it because they truly wanted to be a photographer.

I guess I just got out of taking photos.

I want to get back into it but because I don't think I am that great at it then I am put off. That and the rechargabe batteries are always dead so find it hard to use the SB600 flash :/

Get a fast charger? I have a long one that takes 8 hours and a fast one that takes 15 minutes for those situations.

I'll see if I can post something soon, but photobucket bandwidth on free accs etc, etc...

If you're just wanting to share photos publicly I'd suggest using Dropbox as you get 2GB to begin with and I don't think they compress images so anything you share from your Dropbox public folder should look fantastic.
