They still predict Mountain Lion for Late Summer. I can?t believe they won?t add major features to it, they?re already at DP3 in late April ? IMO they could finalize it before the Summer if they wanted.

With the news lately, I stand right about this. It?s sad they won?t bother adding anything more to it though. I still say either they release it in June as is, or they release it in end of August, September with major features.

At this point I really don't think it's worth more than ?10-?15. If Apple's going to charge us ?24 again it's insane.

Something else I wonder is the following: Why release OS Mountan Lion now with a feaureset based on iOS? iOS 6 is most likely set to be released right after the summer. As it stands OS X and iOS are out of sync by about half a year. Apple should try to keep the two on par with each other.

Pray tell: Which new features should Apple add to OS X 10.8 to make the update worth ?24?

At least you?ll be paying ?24 for something good, not ?119 for something awful like the Windows 8 Home Premium Edition.

Ok, this was kind of a flame bait here, but more seriously, you can still consider sites where it?s free :p It?s not like Apple ever cared about selling copies of OS X, all they care is about people who upgrade to the latest version. The more Mac users upgrade, the more Apple can go forward with implementing new technologies.

It's not a question of which, it's a question of OS X Mountain Lion pretty much lacking major features. Apple builds upon OS X Lion so heavily it can't really be considered a truely new release. In the past major new OS X releases have always been more spectacular compared to a new major iOS version. OS X Mountain Lion seems to usher in an iOS-like update scheme: yearly smaller updates.

We don't pay ?24 for the next version of iOS either do we?

I'd just like some performance improvements especially where 3rd party servers are concerned when mounted in the finder. And for gods sake apple bring back file searching of samba shares.

A few years ago Steve Jobs stood up on stage and touted how compatible OS X was within a Windows environment and how they were "the only ones that did this" and now you can't even search for files in the finder on windows networks.

Your rely is pretty much meaningless to me. I'm not discussing Windows 8, nor do we know what its pricing will be. Secondly I'm fully aware of pirating, I prefer to own a legal copy for a reasonable price. I don't consider ?24 to be fair for a release that does little more than correct the flaws present in OS X Lion, so I'm hoping it'll cost less.

Apple Updates OS X Mountain Lion Developer Preview to Build 12A206j

Apple today pushed out another update to its OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion developer preview program, moving to build 12A206j. The update comes on top of build 12A193i, which was released on May 1.

Apple notes that "MacBookPro3,1", which corresponds to mid and late 2007 machines, is not compatible with the new build, but that issue will be rectified in a later build.

No other details on improvements in the latest build are available yet, but it certainly appears that Apple is making some of its final tweaks for developers leading up to its Worldwide Developers Conference less than four weeks away. Apple is expected to provide extensive previews of OS X Mountain Lion at the conference, with a public launch scheduled for "late summer".

Apple teases hardware-specific ?special features? in upcoming OS X Mountain Lion builds

Apple has long had a program called ?AppleSeed? that seeds upcoming versions of Apple software (both iOS and OS X related) to customers. These seeds typically come to this select group of customers even before they are provided to Apple?s paid and registered developers. Today, the company sent an atypical email to this customer group, informing them to register the different pieces of Apple hardware available to them for software testing. The company says that they need this information for ?exclusive seeds? for future versions of OS X Mountain Lion. Even more exciting is that the company teases hardware-tied special features:

We are preparing for possible hardware specific software updates on OS X Mountain Lion. These contain hardware-specific bug fixes or even special features! In order to make sure you can participate in these exclusive seeds, we need your most up-to-date machine configuration information. The easiest and most efficient way to do this is with Feedback Assistant.

The first type of special feature that comes to mind is the upcoming Mac Retina Display. According to our sources, Apple will rollout this display first in the new, thinner, faster MacBook Pro line at WWDC in mid-June. Apple says that Mountain Lion is launching in late summer, which probably means the new MacBook Pros will ship with OS X Lion. This also likely means that Apple will continue to seed pre-release versions of Mountain Lion after the new MacBook Pros launch. Since Retina Display technology is a combination of both hardware and software, it is possible that Apple is referring to pre-release Mountain Lion versions that support the next-generation MacBook Pro Retina Display.

Energy Saver looks weird. In what appears to be yet another random act of of throwing things in the trash, Apple removed most of the preferences (why?!) but left the window the same size as it was before. I swear, the single most important "feature" of OS X 10.9 Zoo Lion will be the complete removal of System Preferences and all app preferences?

Energy Saver looks same in DP 3.1 to me, a lot of the checkboxes have been removed. Don't know why. Also since installing either a update from Adobe or DP 3.2 it seems to have gotten rid A LOT of un-needed application shortcuts in Launchpad for Photoshop, Flash, Illustrator etc.

Why would they modify Energy Saving at all, it's been fine since Snow Leopard?

My guess is that it was the DP update too. Really glad about that too. Always ****ed me off.
