OPaul
Check all the jumpers. Specifically make sure the device in master is set to master and not stand alone or whatever they call it. Western Digital drives are very picky on this point. OPaul
On each device there will be a small piece of plastic attached to a set of 6 or 8 pins. Each set of 2 pins will have 3 or so letters around them indicating what each jumper does. You want to set each device up so that the jumper is in the corresponding position that you want it to be when it shows up in the BIOS. The layout you have is fine, 2 hard drives on one chain and the CD and DVD on the other. PCKing
dont know... maybe a BIOS update is in order I always put my burner on 2nd Slave... thats just a thing that I do and I doubt it makes a difference. Oh and you need to set your jumpers correctly, I didnt read the whole post and it doesnt sound like you did... The reason you are probly finding the Primary drives on each channel is they are set to CS (Cable Select) by default... you will need to set those to Primary and the others to Secondary... RadishTM Veteran Posted October 6, 2003 Veteran Share Posted October 6, 2003 My config is like this - IDE 1 Master - HD 1 IDE 1 Slave - HD 2 IDE 2 Master - DVD-ROM IDE 2 Slave - CD-RW Try the drives in this config, making sure the jumper pins are in the correct position e.g. Master/Slave/Cable Select - you don't really need to choose this, just change the Master/Slave .... Radish? Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/106084-problem-detecting-secondary-ide-slave/#findComment-1230131 Share on other sites
womble68
I'd go with the BIOS update myself first - I know of a lot of controller problems with Intel 865 and 875 controllers, to do with them identifying even themselves. I know this through experience of Intel 875 boards at work and a Gigabyte 875 board which would occasionally forget where it put my SATA controller - until the most recent BIOS update. Then I'd check your cables. ATA66/100 80 pin cables are specific and although I'd expect this SHOULDN'T make a difference it might and I've always followed how they'd be labelled - BLUE connection = Motherboard, GREY = SLAVE device, and BLACK = MASTER device. munki
The jumpers are little caps on the back of the hard drive or cd rom drive that covers some pins. You'll need to pull em out and reposition them to set the Master/Slave/or whichever position you want it to. Sorry I don't have any pics. :( Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/106084-problem-detecting-secondary-ide-slave/#findComment-1231082 Share on other sites
