topher1078
Does this build have the DirectX accelerated desktop yet with all of those cool visual effects we've been hearing about, or is that considered part of Aero and thus not implemented yet? dr34mer
Just been looking at the Longhorn bliss background - wonder if they'll do variants for different countries... maybe some nice dark rainclouds in a grey sky for us UK folk    Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/106231-the-official-pdc-2003-thread/page/10/#findComment-1299229 Share on other sites
iconboy
heres a question to anyone who knows, can i use this build to just replace my current windows xp? I mean can i install the longhorn build and install the programs i use like flash and ie and stuff and have it run normal and just use that as an OS until the longhorn beta? or would i be able to simply install longhorn, check it out and then reinstall win xp? because it doesnt work with proggies? Jason
I hope your joking, you cannot rely on a alpha or beta OS to be your primary OS. Duel booting both is fine but no way could an alpha or even beta OS be considered good enough to be your primary OS. mdtaUK
it would be great if they could somehow have a different version of the wallpaper for the time of day. Dawn, Day, Dusk, Night and have the wallpaper fade at the right time of day. Of course it would be even better to have a looped video of clouds passing by as a desktop which changes for the time of day, but thats not likely... iconboy
omg, martinDTanderson, thats a brilliant idea! :) infact it would be kickass to have like a video loop of about 24 hours from different parts of the world, say for instance, doing ur work and watching the crowded downtown area of new york? as u work through the day u can see it slowly get darker there! mdtaUK
A DVD video loop running in the background without too much of a hit to the CPU, is technically possible with the new Aero system, but the filesize for the loop would be quite large, and a live video loop would require too much bandwidth... Jason
Jason, so your telling me there is a way to replace my desktop with a 24 hour loop of downtown new york? oh and ever heard of not being an ass? There used to be an Active Desktop program of a view of Earth from a satellite from space that constantly updated itself so the wallpaper kept changing. I have head of not being an ass but I am sorry I cannot help you accomplish this :D Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/106231-the-official-pdc-2003-thread/page/10/#findComment-1299454 Share on other sites
eSouL
this is a pathetic world. people prefer looking at the sky on a computer screen rather than the real one. iconboy
thats not it at all, its more like people who have to sit in front of a computer to do work that must be done, would rather have something beutiful to look at than a dull computer screen, who the hell would prefer a picture of the outdoors instead of being in the outdoors, noone. mdtaUK
Just had another idea for a nice feature for MSN users with Longhorn... 4 MSN butterflys (yellow, red blue and green) which follow the cursor flying in 3D (moving into the background and some in front of windows etc. Just a rather useless use for Aero, but i'd like it...
