Half Life 2 Beta leaked?

Recommended Posts

Correct me if I'm wrong but I think Vivendi are the only ones saying the game has been delayed till April. There hasn't been any official word from Valve yet other than what was said on www.halflifesource.com.

Edit: halflifesource.com just recently updated saying they recieved a email they believe is from a Vivendi representative who says the delay is not confirmed.

ya right unfortunatly Vivendi are are law unto themselves whether Valve like it or not ....this whole charade is far from over, its gonna be interesting to see wht the next move is from the company.

statikmat.. Vivendi is the publisher, so what they say goes. i'm not saying the delay is true or not, i'm just letting you know that what valve says doesn't matter. if vivendi says we're not shipping until xxxx, then thats what happens

It just doesn't seem like Vivendi and Valve communicate much. I'm sure if Valve said, "Hey it's done! Here's the gold lets get it out!" Vivendi isn't going to say, "Nah lets sit on it a few months." I think Vivendi is just trying to keep themselves from looking bad if the release date is not met. And Valve always has the somewhat functional Steam...

Actually, that would only be the case if Vivendi was paying for HL2's development. However, the entire funcing of HL2 has been by Valve themselves. They are essentially using Vivendi to outsource the distrobution of the game. Valve is the one that says when it is released, no one else.

and who's going to get the boxes in stores? vivendi as they're the publisher. they have the power unfortunately.

It all depends on what their agreement (like a contract between publisher and company) says.

Gabe has stated in interviews on of their freedoms due to in-house capital is to develop the game at their own pace. There is no pressure to complete it according to someone else's sales charts or deadlines.

It's generally the author (valve) have the legal power to decide when and how their work is released, the publisher merely has to wait until it's done. That's what happens with movies/studios and books anyway.

Generally that is true, but ultimatly is depends on what is stated in the publisher agreement, that is all I am saying.
