A fix for SKUxxx.cab error when reinstalling or opening an Office 2003 App

I had this issue with a customer this morning. He was using Office 2003 small business and All applications would work except Excel. He would open Excel and the windows installer would appear and then error out on some SKUXXX.cab file it couldn't locate. After searching for it the file couldn't be located on the cd or on the hard drive. Apparently Windows during the windows installer stage was looking on the hard drive for the files.

After searching online for a while, I came across this registry edit. Once I made the following registry edit, excel opened, the windows installer did what it had to do, and Excel worked from then on.

Go into the registry:

HKEY_Local_Machine\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0\Delivery

Change CDCache to 0 (not 1 or 2)

Close the registry and open the program
