Azusa
Same here... offroadaaron
I have an iMac and I recently installed Sophos because of the Flash virus deal. I scanned the computer and all is good but to be honest, I don't have it running in the background. I use my Mac for business stuff only. I don't visit porn sites, poker sites or warez sites or do anything stupid with it so I'm not really too worried about catching a virus on it. Besides, Apple has a reputation to keep and their ego is way up there. They will never allow a virus or viruses to attack and destroy OSX so you can be sure they will patch whatever security holes come up within hours to make OSX secure again. So what happens when you send an email to a PC user and it has a virus and they get infected? and imagine if it's a disribution list! That makes your business or whoever you work for look really bad. Rudy
Gatekeeper is not a malware detector or antivirus system. To be fair, if you set Gatekeeper to only allow signed apps (I couldn't do it personally), you will be just as safe Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/1070477-best-mac-anti-virus-thread/page/2/#findComment-594805853 Share on other sites
Miuku.
So what happens when you send an email to a PC user and it has a virus and they get infected? Well I don't know about your ISP or mail provider but we have the mail server scan all the content with Bitdefender / Amavis+Clam before it's sent out so even if I sent out an infected attachment, it would be cleaned / quarantined before it reached anyone else. einsteinbqat
Did Sophos pick up that java malware - flashback? Well you have to catch it first. Since I didn't, there was nothing to detect. The mystery continues... http://www.bitdefender.com/news/bitdefender-protects-mac-os-x-users-against-new-breed-of-flashback-trojan-2429.html I actually went on my merry way and searched until I found a file that was infected (hooray for Isohunt) and tested it - it indeed does detect it. bbfc_uk
Although I said I had Sophos installed. I recently uninstalled it and my MBP is running much quicker and eveything seems smoother. Might just leave it off for now. Do I really need an AV? I don't send many emails. offroadaaron
I'm using Sophos, no issues here with it as it's been pretty solid. I've had many emails being picked up with issues so it seems to be working well. PyX
I just took the plunge upgraded to Common Sense Security 2012. Works like a charm! (Y) Got me for a second, I was starting looking it up. Three hours ago, I was wondering if I shouldn?t go to sleep, and I have this debate every evening, but end up going too late and not sleeping enough. Anyways, this is also what I?m using. That makes me rather vulnerable at the moment we?re speaking.
