internet explorer problem

Recommended Posts

when I click on a hyperlink, I do not get the"File Download dialog" at all.

Instead the download is automatically saved in "temporary interent files" folder.

I have provided a screenshot of internet explorer which illustrates

what happens when i try to download a file.

I do not want to reinstall ie6sp1 so i'm searching for a possible solution.

I checked for corrupted system files and I use windowsupdate regularly.

suggestions

1. Tools > Internet Options > Security > Default Level. also do this with Advanced > Restore Degault

2. try right clicking on a link and click "Save target as". what happens?

i'll try get more information.

You have to mess with the file types.. I am guessing it a checkmark was selected to auto download the file, so go to tools >> folder options >> file types and whatever the file ended with .exe or whatever go to it and look through probably in advanced and uncheck auto start downloads.

(hope that's it)

I found a solution to this problem. I opened regedit

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Plugins\Extension

The Extension key had some "string values" that probably should not be there

which is wierd since I don't use download mangers.

Anyway, when I deleted them, "File Download dialog" and downloading worked again .

I just wish I thought of this solution two months ago.

I've been downloading using mozilla firebird for the last two months.

At least now I can go back to using internet explorer.
