ht990332
when I click on a hyperlink, I do not get the"File Download dialog" at all. Instead the download is automatically saved in "temporary interent files" folder. I have provided a screenshot of internet explorer which illustrates what happens when i try to download a file. I do not want to reinstall ie6sp1 so i'm searching for a possible solution. I checked for corrupted system files and I use windowsupdate regularly. ht990332
I tried to restore default settings but that did not help. Also when I right click and "Save target as" the download works fine. It just occured to that could it be that IE is interpreting all downloads as images and not files? Jason the Eighty Eighth
what happens once you do this? Tools > Internet Options > Security > Custom Level... > Downloads > Enable Downloads if that doesn't work, perhaps check out this this site, it has IE tweaks. -=SD=-
You have to mess with the file types.. I am guessing it a checkmark was selected to auto download the file, so go to tools >> folder options >> file types and whatever the file ended with .exe or whatever go to it and look through probably in advanced and uncheck auto start downloads. (hope that's it) Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/107093-internet-explorer-problem/#findComment-1244273 Share on other sites

ht990332
I found a solution to this problem. I opened regedit HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Plugins\Extension The Extension key had some "string values" that probably should not be there which is wierd since I don't use download mangers. Anyway, when I deleted them, "File Download dialog" and downloading worked again . I just wish I thought of this solution two months ago. I've been downloading using mozilla firebird for the last two months. At least now I can go back to using internet explorer.
