West Brom have granted the Football Association permission to speak to Roy Hodgson about the vacant England manager's position.

Hodgson, 64, has already spoken with FA chairman David Bernstein about replacing Fabio Capello.

Bernstein said: "Roy is the only manager we have approached and we remain on course to make an appointment within the timescale we set out.

"Further conversations will now take place with Roy."

In other countries the international job would never get offered to a manager of a bottom half team. No, not in England, we'll ignore that idiocy, the F.A offer it to a manager in charge of West Brom, who i'd guarantee that 3/4 of Europe have never even heard of. This is why England will never win another World Cup. Doh.

In other leagues look what happens, the Italian position gets offered to the manager of AC Milan etc. No, not in England, the F.A offer it to a manager in charge of West Brom, who i'd guarantee that 3/4 of Europe have never even heard of. This is why England will never win another World Cup. Doh.

he has european experience but I suppose Spurs are playing hard ball over Redknapp, I would of tried for Pardew

your logic makes no sense. so if hodgson was still in liverpool you would be all good with it? a good manager is a good manager...

Realistically, his best outing was 3-4 years at Fulham, he spent a year at Liverpool so i'd barely even consider him having been there. :huh:

What England need is a quality manager, i'm all for an English manager for the England position although it HAS to be Harry Redknapp, Hodgson just won't be good enough for the job.

Abilities aside. I dont think the team will respect him enough to progress under his management and he will be the scape goat for our Euro flops.

Get shot of the divas from the team and get them working together instead of for their personal glory and who knows.

He is quality.

Redknapp has been sitting on his hands rather than quitting Tottenham Hotspur like he did Portsmouth for the Spurs job and become England manager.

I was hoping he would manage Arsenal when Wenger called it quits, the only other manager I wanted for Arsenal was the previous England manager (Capello).

Welcome aboard Roy, I will hope you can do for england what you did for Fulham and Switzerland.

He got Fulham to the Europa League final, I think Fulham ended up playing the most games (in recent years) to get there as well. The FA could have done a lot worse, as much as Redknapp is the favorite and all, he would have walked when the going got tough anyway.

Redknapp was the media's choice, however I gather it would have cost the FA over ?10 million to buy out his contract at Spurs.

I'm in two minds about Hodgson though - he's obviously got bags of experience, managing clubs throughout Europe, however his record with West Brom isn't exactly terrific. I also worry that should England perform badly at the Euros, the media will tear Hodgson apart with "Well, he wasn't the FA's first choice..." and "Things would have been different had Redknapp been given the job..." etc.

While it is good news for Spurs fans if Hodgson takes the job (he'd be mad not to). For everyone else it isn't good news at all. While Hodgson has had some success he is too inconsistent and i just don't think he'll get the best out of the team.

Redknapps wife did not want to move from their mansion house in Bournemouth to the midlands.

If Redknapp wanted the job that bad he would have quit Spurs and played shotgun till he was offered it.

No manager will make England a successful team.

My prediction if he gets the job (which is inevitable as there's no one else): Hodgson will be out after the World Cup in a couple of years and then the FA will say "we need a tougher manager who can control his players" and will look abroad again.

The Football Association has called a press conference for 4pm on Tuesday, at which it is expected to unveil Roy Hodgson as the new England manager.

Only time will really tell, but it just seems to be the FA are setting themselves up for a massive fall. If Redknapp had got the contract and failed miserably, there'd be no one section to blame, as everyone pretty much backed him. Now if Hodgson fails it's all on the FA's shoulders... there'll be nowhere else to point the finger (other than Hodgson himself. but who could blame him for taking the job).

I do hope Roy does well, but like others have suggested, it's the players who seem to be the problem. I think Harry would of been one of the few people with the ability to galvanise the team.

I don't think so. If Redknapp can keep the Spurs team he has, plus a few new signings. I don't see why he would leave? Plus it is looking likely that Spurs will finish higher than Chelsea.

If he went to Chelsea he'll have his work cut out for me, the team needs gutting.

Fulham coach Ray Lewington will join Roy Hodgson's England coaching staff for Euro 2012.

Former Watford boss Lewington, 55, will link up with England after the end of the Premier League season.

Hodgson said: "I'm delighted that Fulham have agreed to Ray joining the England coaching staff for the summer. I know Ray well and enjoyed working with him at Craven Cottage.

"He's a very good coach and the players will I'm sure enjoy working with him."
