Somebody may have already mentioned it, but this thread has already become enormous and I don't feel like sifting through it. I just thought I'd mention that I am now able to turn hardware acceleration back on in Firefox without the UI getting all fugly, so yay for that. I really hadn't noticed any difference with it off, but since the issue plagued me for some time before that solution was suggested with the CP you'd think I would have checked that first thing.

Same issue here .. waiting for updated drivers from Nvidia

Hi everyone,

Has anyone found a way to disable the auto correction / spell checking in IE10 ? It's a pain in the arse when you write in more than 1 language that it just tries to correct everything into a wrong language.....

Thanks!

Search for "spelling" or "autocorrect" in the start screen...

You can turn it off in PC Settings>General.

Windows 8 build 8422, according to picture #13 http://www.engadget....on-s4-hands-on/

Yeah, I'd say the hardware OEMs have newer builds than the RP, heck I'd say that considering everything and how fast this is said to RTM I bet they're working with even higher builds internally.

a good question would be.. that

will they RTM @ 8500?? or build 8600?? What is their aim? anybody know here?

Make it cheesy and go with build 8888 for kicks. :p

Wasn't Win98's RTM build number was 4.10.1998, so maybe they'll do it again?

If they want a "cute" build number, maybe they'll go with 8800.

Yeah it was, and then 98SE was 4.11.2222 iirc, so having the last four digits all be the same wouldn't be something new for them.

Ah people here are awesome at helping out! thanks.

I do have another question, or rather a wonder..

So with the new metro style ui (aero being permanently disabled in RTM) I must say I like the new sharp UI, how ever! the only colour I see pleasent to look at AT ALL, is the a pretty much pure white.. every other block colour is waaayyy too intense but the main reason is, the TEXT is always black !! ???

Making pretty much 75% of all colours very bad as it becomes really hard to read anything in windows, specially at higher resolutions :/ Is there really no way to change my fonts to white? I can't seem to get the good old menu up where colours, fonts and sizes were controlled in previous windows versions?

Anyone? :D

no one has said anything about aero being disabled permanently, just that it will no longer be default afaik

I don't know, I may have misunderstood it but there is a lot of articles bascially saying the same thing.

For RTM aero glass stuff (assuming the gpu rendering of UI) will be dropped? which makes total sense for the tablet market and really anyone else too but.. anyway, still can't change my text colour to white :/

And you want to know what irks me? No, well your going to hear it.

Firstly, people who defend Windows 8 to the hilt, and to you people - PLEASE ACCEPT THAT THERE ARE PEOPLE WHO DON'T AND WON'T LIKE IT.

Secondly, people who repeatedly post that they don't like Windows 8 and won't be buying it, and to you people - THERE ARE PEOPLE THAT LIKE AND LOVE IT.

To both camps, please show some respect to each other and stop constantly quoting each other and stating for the billionth time that you either hate or love or whatever you think about Windows 8

Let's try and have a decent discussion about Windows 8 without all that crap all the time.

Apologies upfront to those who are trying to have a decent discussion, just fed up!

MY issue isn't with those that don't like it - it's with those that don't like it and either don't have a logical sensible reason why (subjectivism) or - far worse - can't even explain WHY they don't like it (as someone else referred to it, "the Marmite/Vegemite experience").

I said - way back when the Developer Preview hit the Internet - that the UI was going to take major adjusting to get used to. I further said that some folks would simply be unable to make that adjustment.

However, how can that inability to adjust to it be dealt with properly - one way or another - if the reasons behind it can't be expressed with any clarity?

That is all I'm looking for from those that don't like the admittedly-massive change from 7 to 8 - if you don't like it, please be clear in WHY you don't like it.

Is that so much to ask?

No, and I would encourage that myself. It would make a refreshing change from normal crap posted by both sides of the argument. It's okay me posting and saying I don't like it because of Metro, but I must also explain why I don't like Metro, do I not like it all or just a specific part if it etc etc.

And what strikes me as even more odd is that you so called experts can't wrap your heads around the fact that we JUST DON'T LIKE IT. I know how to use it, and I still don't like it.

Oh, I don't care if you like or don't like it. But, falsely trying to make everyone believe it's soooo hard to use is what I don't get. It's like those informercials that start out, "Has this ever happened to you?" And, it shows a woman cutting her foot off with a vacuum cleaner or someone's hand exploding while wiping down a counter with a cloth.

These infomercials make common tasks look like they're the most difficult thing in the world and could cause traumatic injury or terminal illness. Whether someone likes 8 or not, isn't my problem. But, stop trying to convince the world it's unusable because that simply isn't the case.

That being said, anybody wanna buy a Sham-wow?

If the colors are too much for the titles you can try and tweak the intensity of the color and also tweak the title bar font. Like, I made mine a bit bigger and bold, but it would've been nice if we could tweak the text color, unless it's hidden somewhere and I missed it.

Though I didn't really look hard for it tbh.

I don't know, I may have misunderstood it but there is a lot of articles bascially saying the same thing.

The glass UI is either being dropped or no longer the default, but the GPU rendering will still remain. That isn't going away. They're merely making a cosmetic change.

Ok Guys, how do you turn the language toolbar off? This is where you can change your keyboard language easily if you have more than one language installed?

Doesn't matter solved it myself

I happen to think ads for new content on a content consumption application/service make perfect sense. I don't go digging around the web to find out whats coming down the pike for everything, I happen to like seeing an ad on my Xbox 360 dashboard telling me a new arcade game is out that I probably missed or forgot the release date for. Lots of people are the same, they don't crawl the web to find out everything that's on the way or what's new. If a video app that's tied to a video service shows me ads (coming soon trailers) for movies I'd like that.

Now if it's ads for something out of context to the app/service then I agree.

There are already out of context ads, look at the MIB3 ad in this screenshot. Neither relevant nor something I expect to buy from the local video player.

The images of artists are ads (in a way) and I agree that they're appropriate. A link to sign up for a Zune Pass (or whatever it will now be called) is also probably OK so long as it only appears once or twice and can be easily removed. However, I fail to see what an add for Xbox live has to do with Music or Video. I also suspect that we'll see more ads over time much like the ads that appear on the Xbox Dashboard. I'm really not interested in that, especially if they're going to charge me full price for their operating system.

I wasn't bothered with ads on Xbox earlier but now that they've started doing unrelated ads, I don't like them much and as you said - not certainly on my OS.
