Jose_49
Guys, I'm just testing out Win 8 Pro RTM, and I'm finding the RTM to have the complete UI bigger. Am I wrong, or is it like that? BTW, if it IS like that... Is it possible to reduce its size? I'm feeling like I'm being scolded by the UI being so big (which is reasonable due to Windows 8 being Touch oriented) and cramped :s Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/1096301-windows-8-rtm-is-everything-made-bigger/ Share on other sites
LightEco
The default zoom level is 125%. You can reduce this in Control Panel\Appearance and Personalization\Display. Proculsi
Please post a screenshot. Are you saying that the UI is bigger than in the Release Preview? Maybe you have to adjust your screen resolution. Dot Matrix
Make sure your graphics drivers are installed, and your monitor's native resolution set. SkyDX
Well I just checked this in the RP and to my surprise you can alter the font-size for the titlebar in this dialog too so no more registry-hacks for that atleast. And I guess this will work for the RTM too^^ Also maybe I'm paranoid but I think everyone who connects the RTM to the internet is a brave person :p Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/1096301-windows-8-rtm-is-everything-made-bigger/#findComment-595064057 Share on other sites
ablanken
Windows 7 sets the screen resolution to the monitor's native resolution if the appropriate video drivers are included. If the screen resolution is high enough, the system will default to 125% DPI. I'd assume that this would be the case for Windows 8 as well. Jose_49
i don't know about you i just installed and it was set at 100% for me Seems it will depend on the monitor you are currently using. First time ever on the life span of this computer (Dell XPS M1530 Win Vista SP1 up to Win 8 RTM) that this appeared. I got paranoid, but thanks God it was a simple fix. LightEco
Not sure what conditions cause it default to 100% or 125%. I've encountered both, perhaps the monitor and video card you are using. pmrd
It depends on the monitor, some TVs make it default to 125% if you install windows using it. Windows 7 did the same thing. theyarecomingforyou
I have a dual-monitor setup - a 30" 2560x1600 monitor and a 42" 1920x1080 HDTV - and mine defaults to 125%. For some reason it detects my HDTV as the primary monitor, so that may be a factor. Personally I find it annoying but it only takes a few seconds to change it. JOHW
It's set higher if you have a high DPI like (13" 1920x1080, etc) Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/1096301-windows-8-rtm-is-everything-made-bigger/#findComment-595064219 Share on other sites
RandPC
It's a little strange with it's determination though... my desktop with a primary monitor of 23" 1920x1080 saw a default DPI of 125%, my laptop with a 15" 1920x1080 got 100%. That definitely seems backwards to me. Installed from the same ISO.
