Microsoft Finally Admits to Xbox 720

That's not too bad, but X3 sounds like an abbreviation of XBox 360. I don't think they'd go with that.

Plus the whole reason they went with xbox 360 instead of the xbox 2 is that they didnt want perception to be that it was inferior to the ps3 (2<3), so x3 will face the same problem with regards to the ps4.

No kidding! If they name it that, I'm just gonna do a 720? turn and walk away!!!

In theory doing this you would be facing it again and would walk right into it lol

Yes, and this is why they don't let you to name it. If you do 720? turn, how can you walk away?

Maybe they just need to call it 'The New Xbox'. :p

I laughed. Thanks for the flashback. Almost made me miss the 2005 era of the Gamers Hangout. Almost.

(Just change the 360 to 720 :p)

That image is awesome! (Y)

Can't edit my post, but there was an official update to this from Microsoft.

"The comments to The Verge were not understood in their intended context," says a Microsoft spokesperson. "When Brian mentioned a ?new wave of products,? he was referring to the full lineup of products coming later this year from Microsoft, including Windows 8, Office, Windows Phone and of course our fall Xbox update which will bring a host of new consumer experiences like Xbox Music, Videos, Games on Windows 8 and Xbox SmartGlass."

Tom Warren @ The Verge - http://www.theverge....ashboard-update (Y)

I sort of wish they would just drop the name XBox completely, come up with something fresh and original.

fresh and original? it's only been out two iterations, and XBOX is the microsoft gaming brand, it sure was original when it came out... changing a well known name doesn't make something "fresh"...

I would argue that it is the wrong time entirely for Microsoft or Sony to release a new console. 1080p's reign is about to end, 4k's is about to start. It?s better for all of us who will be spending a lot of money on next gen consoles for both of them to wait until 4k is here, and video tech is slightly more advanced and able to support it for cheaper.

4k isnt going to be the norm for YEARS. even if there are tv's released next year, there will be zero content. content might filter in around 2014, but mass availability wont be until 2016 at the earliest.

Fresh and original?? Before the xbox console what was named xbox that made it unoriginal??

What's amazing is the fact that Microsoft is still selling the 360 at a good rate with price still in the $200-$400 range, depending on the kit you select...

I don't think they feel the pressure to come out with a new console that soon.

Whatever it is going to be named, announce the damn thing already, get Sony to announce there's, and lets see them Holiday 2013, preferably sooner.

While it is admirable, never been a fan of the whole long life cycle of a console, especially not 10 damn years like Sony tries to say they support. Especially not in this day and age.

Hell, the current gen of consoles were dated components wise when they were released. It is now 7 years later.

I want real 1080p support. That's all. This talk of 4k support is for the birds. Adoption of that tech to where it is widespread is at least 2 years out. At least. Probably more like 4-5 to be common place.

So just give me real 1080p support (and I mean for games, not movies). I got the TV capable of it, have for years now, give me the consoles.

I wonder what we will see in the next generation of consoles and if it will be anything to get excited about. I'm really not sure I will get all that excited if all we get is better graphics. Better graphics from console generation to console generation has always been the thing I got most excited about. But I think that the last generation of consoles really made up the gap between console graphics and PC graphics. PC graphics will probably always be better (at least when it comes to games that push hardware to the limits). And there was an increase in gameplay and immersion because of better graphics and better TVs with much higher resolutions with last generation consoles.

Not sure if I'm the only one who feels this way. But better and better graphics are having diminishing returns me thinks.

It's not just 'graphics' though. The world density on console games is pathetic. Audio takes RAM. Characters take RAM. Yes, graphics too. AI logic takes RAM. Every part of a game is squeezed to death on current consoles.

Xbox MX

OHHHHHH!!!! Now that could probably work, MX is probably Modern eXperience I'm guessing, and they've used it for the new One Note app so it fits that way.

they admitted to it when it was in Real Steel on billboards in a place called BING ARENA!

And Larry, i disagree with you QHD/QWHD screens are now becoming normative. That's still not 4K but it's close. I fully expect the new consoles to support 1600p, although it may be the way they support 1080p now. the native resolution may be 1080p or higher, then upscaling to 1600p and perhaps higher. And while i 100% agree with you that this generation has lasted way too long and that annoucements were due like E3 2011, it is amazing what devs are able to do with that limited technology. as someone who's been playing games for over 30 years (as i well like to advertise) i am always taken aback by what comes out of those miniscule 512MB of memory.

And there's nothing wrong with Xbox 720. i would be annoyed it it'd be called anything else, the name Xbox 360 grew on me so much, it's practically part of my DNA now. What's wrong with 720? it's two nice round ones. like this:

Once you think of 720 like those lovely parts of dear Ms. Kasumi, there's no going back

They'll probably stay their full mentally challenged route they're on now and call it Modern Xbox

Or perhaps Modern Bob.

As for 4k support, not going to happen, there is no point, 4k wont be mainstream till after the lifesycle of the Modern Bob

blu-ray might happen, the royalty fees will just get passed on to the consumer, maybe in an xbox live fee hike, they'll need

to figure out how to fix their Modern UI on the Bob to display more ads though, I don't think 5 per section is enough.

/s? (maybe)

Don't worry about ads! On the new (New-new-new-NXE!) dashboard, there are even more tiles to display ads on!

The new Xbox won't support 4K, unless they want to make it incredibly un-affordable for the average consumer, it isn't going to happen until next-next generation.

However, I do believe it will include Blu-ray, download only simply isn't viable as not enough people have good internet connections.
