Guest
Hello, I'm trying to use my wired Xbox 360 controller with my new laptop (which only has USB3 plugs), I plugged in the 360 controller and windows told me: "Device driver software was not successfully installed". I also installed the following drivers but it doesn't do anything. When I plug in the controller, the 360 sign on the controller lights up for a few seconds and then it stops. The controller shows up as "Bigben Controller BB7201" in the device manager. Any ideas? Thanks! Guest
Anyone have any ideas? I tried asking at some microsoft forums but no help from there either. http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-hardware/error-device-driver-software-was-not-successfully/c7f9e793-4c53-48be-b218-54224b292d41 http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en/w7itprohardware/thread/02e00630-4de0-495b-9817-f08b3259ebfd Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/1097039-wired-360-controller-and-usb-30/#findComment-595103167 Share on other sites
ZakO
Have you got the latest USB3 driver? There's an update (Intel USB3.0 Driver V1.0.4.225) on the Asus page you linked to. I'm not really sure what else you can try, but I have a wired 360 controller plugged into a USB3 port and it's working fine. I don't understand why it doesn't work, it's really annoying. djdanster
Tried uninstalling the driver through device manager or "uninstall or change a program"? After that's done, leave the controller unplugged and install the driver pack from the top link. After installed, then plug in controller. Searches windows update and eventually comes up with "No driver found". Brandon H Supervisor Posted August 19, 2012 Supervisor Share Posted August 19, 2012 not to sound like the dumbass commenter but is it possible that the controller itself is faulty and sending the wrong ID or something? does it work fine on other computers? nominak
Try looking at Windows Update, and see if there's an update for the USB3 or Xbox 360 controller. ~Johnny
Is this an Official Wired Xbox 360 and not one of these? http://www.bigben-interactive.co.uk/produit/produit/id/194 Because your PC isn't recognising it as an official controller, and those Bigben ones use different drivers. (You could try forcing it to use the official Xbox 360 controller driver, but it might not work at all). Mystic Mungis
I've seen threads on other sites about Xbox controllers (both official and 3rd party) not working with USB3 ports and I think most, if not all, of the machines having the problem were made by Asus. I've never seen a resolution yet though :( Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/1097039-wired-360-controller-and-usb-30/#findComment-595104953 Share on other sites

+jamesyfx Subscriber² Posted August 19, 2012 Subscriber² Share Posted August 19, 2012 Yeah that's definitely not the official Xbox 360 controller. Your computer can see it but can't do anything with it since there is no driver. There may be a driver for it but I wouldn't be surprised if there isn't. I would recommend just buying an official one, then you know it will work perfectly. Brandon H Supervisor Posted August 19, 2012 Supervisor Share Posted August 19, 2012 if you want to stick with wired, trade that controller in and buy a madcatz controller it's a great controller for its price and I can confirm that it works perfectly with PC gamestop usually has them in stock Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/1097039-wired-360-controller-and-usb-30/#findComment-595105029 Share on other sites

First, download http://www.microsoft.com/hardware/en-us/p/xbox-360-controller-for-windows#support second, using winrar, right click and extract to Xbox360_xx Third, connect the control will not install the driver. Now that is the big secret. Go to 'Device Manager', right click on the device and click 'update driver' - seek driver software on the computer - Let me pick from a list of device drivers on your computer - search for 'usb human interface device '- is probably already come to the Xbox 360 controller for windows. if it does not click 'have disk' and browse to the path where you extracted the file eg "C: \ Users \ dmsanderson \ Downloads \ Xbox360_32Ptb \ xbox360 \ setup \ files \ driver \ win7" good luck friend. this was my solution. never expect anything from microsoft Sorry poor english. hope you understand see ya!
